Dead Space has interest me throughout it's existence. Thing is I'm afraid to play horror games or watch horror movies. (Once I watched a horror movie trailer and it bothered me for three days.)

I actually ordered the first game and when it finally came I sent it back as I decided that I do not dare to play it .

Spike and Crecy I really advocate playing it. I dont usually do horror games but I've forced myself to play Dead Space and its been really enjoyable despite almost crapping myself a couple of times.

Its not the enemies that're scary, its the way EA Redwood have used music and the ships environment to keep the atmosphere so darn intense. The games really enjoyable despite this, just make sure your kids or friends or siblings dont sneak up on you while you're playing.

Yea, the first one is great, the narrow corridors and confines with lighting etc make it quiet scary, a bit like Doom 3 imo.
The second one will be a more 'open' environment, no less scary and immersive though, i'll be purchasing it asap.

BTW, here are the minimum system requirements for Dead Space 2: CPU: 2.8 GHz processor or equivalent (any Pentium 4 2.8 GHz or better, AMD Athlon64 3000+ or better, any Athlon64 X2 or Core Duo processor)
RAM: 1 GB (XP), 2 GB (Vista or Win7) or more
DISC DRIVE: 8x speed or faster CD/DVD drive
HARD DRIVE: At least 10 GB of free space
VIDEO: 256 MB Video Card and Shader Model 3.0 required. NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or better (7300, 7600 GS, and 8500 are below minimum system requirements) ATI X1600 Pro or better (X1300, X1300 Pro and HD2400 are below minimum system requirements)
SOUND: Direct 9.0c compatible sound card

Shouldn't be a prob nowadays, right?

As you can see from the advised minim. specs req'd, in particular video card and cpu, always exceed the min. specs req'd.
God knows why anyone would want to run Win 7 on a Pentium 4, with 256 MB of video graphics

It actually doesn't bother me as much as it used to(would sit at the edge of whatever surface I was on, my stomach in a frequent state of worry). The main reason I haven't played is due to the fact my PS3 is currently at the girlfriends house. Don't really feel like moving it around everytime I want to watch/play something.

I'll probably get it on my ps3 just for the extra Deadspace Extraction game.




In other Dead Space news, I dreamt I was playing DS last night. I was walking on catwalk that turned right and followed a wall up ahead. On the wall were white splashes, like something shot some sort of chemical. There was also a light shining on these splashes. I get to the wall and turn right, and up ahead there were 4-5 beds shrouded in dark. Shined a flashlight on them, and these big necromorphs stood up from the beds. They then proceeded to shoot the white stuff() at me. I opened fire with my ripper, but since they were far away, I was having a hard time hitting them.

I run out of ripper ammo and switch to the military rifle(forget its name), while a necromorph that can go invisible runs up to me. I pull the trigger and nothing happens(unsure if I was out of ammo, or if it had something to do with unbinding the fire button) it rushes up to me and the game goes into slow mo as he kills me. Next thing I know, I'm looking at the controls page in the Pause menu. And then I woke up.

Its perfectly fine to be picky. Visceral games, my bad. Need to not just rely on Steams word. Though it occurs to me now it displays the publisher, not the dev. So my bad

I just played the demo. All I can say is holy sh*t. I need to hurry up and beat Dead Space 1. The action is definitely more intense, but the game keeps the same edge of your seat horror.

Dead Space 1 made me feel safe in the elevators, nothing ever attacked you in the elevators(especially since they're so small), was in the church part riding an elevator, and one of the necromorphs dropped in. I was like , and then shot his limbs off with the Pulse Rifle.

I was going to boycott DS2 because DS1 had the worst mouse control of any console port I've ever played, and that is saying something. They actually put the same dead zone on the mouse as they had on the controller! /facepalm

And to add insult to injury, the devs denied there was a problem and never patched it.

But DS2 is a different developer, so the boycott seems kind of pointless now.

Maybe I'll just put everyone at EA Redwood Shores on my lottery hit list instead.

After buying, trying, and shelving Dead Space 1 and Resident Evil 5 due to interface and control issues; I've come to the firm and certain conclusion that console ports for this PC gamer, are a waste of time and money. Dead space 2 will probably be no different.

EA Redwood Shore's response:
"Dead Space for PC is an equivalent experience to that on consoles. The controls are different and customizable, but we feel it’s in the best ability for the players to match what the console experience is like."
One fix is:
changing the LCD's native resolution of 1680x1050 and turning off vsync, the mouse works perfectly fine. There is a very, very small perceptible amount of "lag" but I think it has more to do with the camera motion relative to your character than anything.
If you have Nvidia, VSync Disabled & Triple Buffering Forced ON in nVidia Panel works fine so far.
Or of course plug in a 360 controller

Read above for workarounds.
P.S. Res Evil 5 is nowhere near as bad as Res Evil 4, Res Evil 4 was imo the worst ever, Controller is required, thanks to complete lack of mouse support and mediocre keyboard controls.

"Visceral's Steve Papoutsis says the studio has heard the outcry from unhappy PC gamers and is working to improve the mouse-and-keyboard control setup in Dead Space 2 .
Dead Space was designed to be played on a gamepad, a fact reflected in the many complaints from PC gamers that the mouse and keyboard support was seriously lacking. Papoutsis, the senior producer on the first game, actually recommended that PC gamers playing the original forgo their usual setup in favor of a controller. "Not to sound snarky, but with Dead Space, honestly, the way we're playing it is with a gamepad," he told CVG. "Even if you're a PC guy, if you have one, stick [your gamepad] in your PC and play the game with that."
But Visceral is "focused on trying to improve" the PC controls in the follow-up, he said. "This time out we have people dedicated on working to improve the controls for PC players," he continued. "Out of the box, we're hopeful the PC version this time will respond a lot better and that people will be a lot more comfortable and happier with the controls. That is feedback we've heard and we're certainly trying to address it."
Personally, I thought the PC controls were just fine, but I'm not about to complain if Visceral makes the sequel even better. Dead Space 2 is slated for release in January 2011 on the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3."

I've just finished Dead Space (I managed to get the hang of the mouse control, though I still don't like it) and I'm confused by the story. Very confused.

(if you haven't played Dead Space then consider this a spoiler warning)

So. People discovered the marker on earth and reverse engineered it to make another marker (why?) which they took to the planet and "tested" (how?) which resulted in necromorphs, so they sealed the marker inside the planet and declared the whole place a no-go-zone. We know that the organic crap that the marker can create from dead flesh can grow really fast into a variety of forms, and this presumably explains the really big monsters you encounter (the Leviathan, and that thing you kill at the very end of the game). So here are my questions...

1) The marker creates things from dead flesh, right? The necromorphs, the Leviathan, the final boss, and all that stuff "growing" on the ishimura is dead flesh infected and mutated by some sort of alien life form... or whatever... that comes from the marker, right? And it has some sort of hive mind, right? Correct me if I'm wrong in any of this! And presumably this hive mind really likes being close to the marker because after the marker is taken it telepathically tells everyone that they should "make it whole again" using hallucinations of dead wives, dead girlfriends, dead brothers, etc. In which case, why do the necromorphs attack the people who are trying to help it? Isaac and that English chap you run into are both trying to do what the hive mind wants, yet Isaac is attacked by the necromorphs at every turn, and the English bloke presumably would be attacked as well (or else why would he need to lock himself away from the necromorphs).

2) Why do the necromorphs attack Nicole? She's a hallucination! One possible explanation is that the hive mind is intelligent and wants Isaac to believe that Nicole is real and on his side, so it tells the necromorphs to attack the hallucination in order to fool Isaac, but this explanation seems a bit far fetched to me and if the hive mind is intelligent then that only makes 1) above even more confusing.

3) Why are some people half-dead and insane? You meet various "survivors" on the Ishimura who are a mess physically (skinned and mutilated, but not mutated) who bang their heads on walls until their skull cracks open, or slit their own throats while laughing, or just stand staring into space laughing at nothing. What makes them do that while leaving other survivors relatively sane (or at least functional)?

4) What was up with that crazy doctor? The one who made the regenerating necromorph? I thought he was going to have some sort of relevance to the story but as far as I can tell he was nothing to do with the main plot. Was he just a nutcase sideshow or did he play some larger role that I missed? And what exactly was his crazy plan anyway? Why did he want to make an "improved" necromorph before giving himself up to the hive mind? He didn't consider the existing necromorphs to be a good enough transcendence? I know he was mad, but even mad people have some sort of rationale.

5) What was Kendra's plan exactly? She works for the government and was sent in to retrieve the marker? The government, knowing full well what the marker can do, sent ONE PERSON to find it and take it somewhere else? Oh wait, no they didn't, they also sent a warship to blow up the Ishimura while Kendra is on board. Way to go, government. What exactly is this government trying to achieve here? Destroy the marker? Move it away from the Church? Move it to the Church maybe?

There are a hundred other minor plot holes and inconsistencies but they don't bother me. The five things above bother me. Any help here?
