Did the Germans use this on their Uboats? Just curious, couldnt readily find the info on the web. I wonder becuase should I ignore radio transmissions when im submerged? VLF can penetrate i think 20 meters of water. On the wikipedia page they show the VLF antenna on the WWII US sub Pampanito.

According to an article on U-Boat.net they did use VLF but only one way transmissions were possible.
See: http://www.uboat.net/articles/35.html There's a table there that shows reception depth varied with range, down to 30m in the Bay of Biscay but only 17m in the Indian Ocean. |
