I just finished up a partrol off of the eastern shore of Britain in December, 1939-January, 1940 in a IIA. The seas turned rough on my way across the North Sea from Kiel, and I ran into heavy rain as I got closer to Britain. Well, it rained, rained, rained, and rained some more, very hard, for about 4 or 5 days straight if not longer. It simply would not stop raining at all. I finally just left thinking that this war is surely over by now because no land would be able to have heavy rain like that for over five straight days non-stop and still exist (not be flooded away).
Is this accurate weather modeling? Is their something wrong with my GWX install, because I am almost certain I have read that the new weather modeling in GWX is really good and was supposed to alter the weather you experience in the game often. I basically saw heavy seas in the North Sea, and Heavy Rain off the coast of Britain for about a month. Very boring. I would rather just have hard coded weather where I can just tell it what weather I want so I can flip a coin to choose to make it a little more beleivable. Any other experiences with this? |

Excessive bad weather is a stock SH3 trait... not a GWX bug.

I knew that from before, but I thought I had read somewhere that GWX fixed the weather or something like that. I guess I was a little confused.
You are definitely right. I have always had this same problem with the weather well before your mod came out. I was not at all trying to blame your mod for the excessive bad weather. I guess we will just have to deal with it and hope they fix the weather in SH4. Thanks. |

That being said, it still does exhibit seasonal patterns... ie: the weather is more consistently bad in the winter than the summer. Some things we are just still stuck with. |

I love bad weather....makes my job so much easier!
![]() I just had a hard time, setting up an attack on a large convoy, June '42...weather was awefully good (screenies taken well before convoy was sighted): ![]() ![]() This calmness is just so depressing, LOL. Raising your attack-scope safely is a matter of millimeters, so it seems. No Sir, give me a stormy N-Atlantic any day!

If you use SH3 Weather Gen, you at least can start out with good weather. Try this: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=96710 I have found that is you use this, you can not use SH3 Weather Gen an it undoes all your changes.

I did an entire patrol in the North Sea last night (using GWX) where there was no cloud cover and ZERO wind-speed for over a week.
I think people are over-reacting to statistical oddities, perhaps. Plus - read about the real war in the Atlantic. Often whole convoys were scattered and hove-to for days on end due to storms. There is often sustained bad weather in the North Atlantic! It may be frustrating for us as players, but most people say they like realism. Sometimes realism is no fun. You can't have it both ways! |

In books that I have read weather was nastier in the Atlantic more than it was nice, much more.

I guess if it is realistic, that is what I want then. I just thought that Britain would flood away if it rained like that for days on end. I was less than 50 KM off Britains coast when I experienced all this rain, so I thought it was a bit odd. But, I admit, I am no expert on weather patterns in the North Sea. If bad weather for days on end is realistic, then that is what I want.
By the way, on my next patrol to the same region, I had clear weather the entire time (only about 3 days I think until I ran out of torps), but the wave conditions were very bad. It is February, so I am sure I will be getting some calmer seas in the near future. The waves dont bother anyhow. |

I get very good weather all the time...I mean i am out on petrol for like 3 weeks and max wind is speed is 7 knots (most of the time 4) ,no rain and the wind directions is ALWAYS 0 no matter where i am heading...
Whats wrong?I am using the GWX mode and only that mode. ps:This petrol started mid January!!!! |

not wanting to get all "the end of the world is nigh" but there seems to be an increased rate of threads returning from the dead recently.
