Default Looking for some statistics on the naval war in the Pacific

I'm working on a mod called The Strategic War Mod and I'm in search of some statistics. While I found some of the information I haven't been able to find it all and I'm not certain of the accuracy of some of the information that I have found.

Here's what I'm looking for:

1. Total Japanese merchant tonnage as of December 1941.
2. Total Japanese merchant tonnage built during the war.
3. Total Japanese merchant tonnage sunk during the war.
4. Total Japanese merchant tonnage sunk by U.S. submarines during the war.
5. If any of the above statistics can be broken down for freight (standard merchantman) / oil (tankers) / and troops (troopships and passenger liners) that would be very helpful.

6. Total Japanese warship tonnage as of December 1941.
7. Total Japanese warship tonnage built during the war.
8. Total Japanese warship tonnage sunk during the war.
9. Total Japanese warship tonnage sunk by U.S. submarines during the war.

10. If any of the above statistics can be broken down into more detail that would be great to. For example: Japanese merchant production per month for the entire war.

This should give you some of the information you need.

Thanks pabbi, that's just what I was looking for. It has some great data that I can use. It looks like it covers everything except Japanese ship production. I still need to find some numbers for that. I have found a total of 4,100,00 tons built, but I can't find anything indicating how much of that was merchant tonnage and how much was warship tonnage.

Edit: I just found the rest of the production info here:

http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk...d_manpower.htm

Warship production: U.S: 8,165,600 vs. Japan: 1,338,300.
Merchant production: U.S: 38,090,300 vs. Japan: 3,792,000.

Gee I wonder why the U.S. won the war?

I could still use some info that breaks down Japanese merchant production and losses into freighters, tankers, and troopships/passenger liners. This is probably going to be near impossible to find but hopefully there's at least some data out there about the tankers.

Well, concerning Japanese Merchant ship losses, The JANAC report can be found here:
http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/Japa....html#contents

However, the list, merchants lost to all causes is long: http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/Japa...-Losses-4.html

Japanese merchant and naval losses, listed according to which US submarine sank them: http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/Japa...-Losses-6.html

Good Luck on your mod!
Merchant ships are listed as cargo, passenger-cargo, transport, and tanker. However, there is no summary breakdown, so you will have to do the counting manually.

Thanks Takao, that gives me some additional information. I can use some of the data from the summaries section.

Here's the data for Japanese warship production during the war, as well as total merchant tonnage produced each year: http://www.combinedfleet.com/economic.htm

I'm sure if you emailed that site's creator, he could tell you if he has it broken down by merchant ship type.

EDIT: This site gives you every Japanese vessel sunk by sub during the war, organized by which sub sunk it (according to JANAC): http://www.valoratsea.com/JANAC.htm

Book wise, you might try Clay Blair's "Silent Victory:The US Submarine War Against Japan".

If it is anything like his U-boat books, it is full of statistics like you may be looking for. I have the book but have not read it yet.

Japanese ship production, huh? Now, I just read that in one of my books sometime in the past couple of months. Then again, I may have seen it somewhere on-line. I'll have to check my books/links to see if I can find it. Ugh, I hate thinking, it hurts too much.
Oh, BTW, love your chicken.
