Default some problems

I'm kinda looking for some advice. I'm hoping that I didn't come to the wrong place.
Let me explain.
I've had trouble finding a job for a while now, I worked as a personal assistant for a woman and although the pay was good, there was no set schedule and it was all kinds of messed up regarding the legality of things she was doing.
That being said, I have previous work experience, although I'm having one heckuva time getting in anywhere else. I applied at three places near the end of October, all but one online, I'm having trouble finding places that still use paper applications. Anyways, I have a lot of experience regarding electronics and games, so I apply at Gamestop, Staples, and Radioshack.
I did what I was taught to do, I called in, stopped in, made sure managers got my name, everything and nothing. Gamestop said they will keep me on file and I never heard from Staples or Radioshack.

Now, another bit of intrigue.
my grandmother works at Wal-Mart. I've tried twice to get in to no avail. again, calling in every other day, stopping in, using good references...everything.
I'm in the process of trying again now. I put the app in on tuesday, and since it's a holiday week, I'm kinda reluctant to call in (since I'm not sure what the hours of the lady I'm supposed to talk to are) and since I'm not sure how the "applicant etiquette" goes for holiday weeks.

Another problem. I've been jobless for a while now, since I got back here on October 16th. my girlfriend, who is the same one that dumped me a while back for those who remember, it's a long, complicated story but we mended things up. It's bulletproof now, just trust me on that one.
as I was saying, my girlfriend is really pushing for me to get a job.
I'm pushing for me to get a job. but recently I've been sidetracked.
I got my car breaking down one part at a time, I've things I have to do here at home, chores, cleaning, you know, home stuff. and it keeps me from even remembering that I have to call in on my application, which, I said before, I'm not sure what to do during this week, I'm hoping that window isn't closing.

but now, this joblessness is spilling into everything, my relationships with my parents, my friends, and my girlfriend.
I'm genuinely trying to find work, and every time I'm asked it seems to them like I'm avoiding it, I swear to you guys I'm not.
this same thing happened in school, I would get homework, and I would do everything to make sure I did it, and then I wouldn't do it, I'd forget or what have you. Then the next day I get pissed at myself for not doing it. day after day. to everyone else I am avoiding it, but nobody believes me when I say I really forgot when I really did, when doing it escaped my mind totally. It's killing me.
I really want a job, I really want to get out and do something, but something always jumps in the way and nobody believes me when I say it does. I'm afraid I might have something, and I'm looking for advice as to what to do otherwise.
perhaps I need to vent. that usually helps a little. but I really don't know what to do. my whole world is closing in around me and I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

That stynks.

One piece of worthless advice. Treating looking for a job as your job. That means you don't squeeze in looking for a job with respect to your other life, your other life must be squeezed in.

In this economy, success in finding a job is based on the effort you are putting into it.

How is your appearance?

How are your interviewing skills?

Have you tightened up your resume?

Take a good objective look at your skill set. Are there job areas you have never worked in before that might need them. Good job skills and a good work ethic can transfer to a diverse career set.

Finally, look for a job that no one else wants. If you look for mall jobs you will be up against a lot of competition that will probably be willing to work for lower and lower pay.

My first job, as a kid, was polishing boxes at a local mortuary. I got the job because no one else even applied.

Check out some of the apprentice jobs at your local electrician/plumbing/construction/ect businesses. A lot of time they are looking for hard workers.

Without seeing your resume or knowing your job experience, there is little we can do to help you.

Just keep at it. Unemployment is a full time job. When The Frau was "right sized", she spent 8 hours a day researching, sending out resumes (hundreds), and interviewing. Forty hours a week. She found a job in a month, with a promotion, and a significant raise. She got that because she hustled.

Good luck with it.

Don't stop seeking a job you are good at and would like to to do. But until one comes along check out those 'want' ads and apply for something outside your box. Don't let pride get in the way and never expect to start at the top of any profession no matter how long you have been doing it.

How seriously you take your interview appearance. Is telling how seriously you take your job.

You wonder why people think you are not trying? Oh my chores, the car, my period, my panties are tied in a wad. You are in a process? what process? YOU'RE NOT SURE??!!! What a worthless sorry arse excuse. Did you want me our someone else from SUBSIM to call and find out these hours for you? Stop the pity party and find out NOW. GET ON IT!

Most people usually come in well ahead of the start of the work day and pour themselves a cup of coffee or just chill in front of the desk before they get to work. Try calling about around 15 minutes before the clock starts. If you get no answer then go down there and start knocking on doors.

Persistence persistence persistence and when you've exhausted that then try with even more persistence. Step up to the plate and MAKE yourself known don't be discouraged.

You sound younger, so hopefully you're not like millions with no job trying to keep a home, feed kids, ect..

If younger, think long term. My advise to anyone young is start a business doing what you love. If you can live with parents, whatever, do what you must. I worked for a company for 20 years that shutdown and went to work for myself and kick my butt I didn't do it long ago. I made them a fortune for the pay.

Look to growing fields. My brother lost a job in trucking and redneck and all went into the nursing field. They paid for all his school and gave him a job. In this field he'll always have a job, decent pay and benefits.

Most retail jobs are now seasonal. Retail is a dying market of low pay if you can find a job....look for something else.

Had another friend that went to a computer school, then took a course on working on ATM's, now has a great job, so think out of the box.

Right now they're about 8 people seeking the same job, you have to stand out in everyway. I've actually had people come in and apply barefoot...think I'm gonna hire em....not hardly.
