OK Mate's,
I've been playing SH-1-5 for the last 15 YRS. Still love it. My question is: how or can I adjust the volume of an individuale sound effect such as: "diesel engine exterior" in "Data/sound folder" ?

If it's not in the speech folder you can do with your onboard Sound Recorder. You'll find the link in the Start Menu under Accessories/Entertainment. It will open, read and adjust all the .wav files, which means any sounds in the game except speech. That requires a special too such as www.goldwave.com.

SS,
Thanks for your advice however I'm using Windows 7 OS. In accessories I don't see the program /"entertainment"? Also if I go into SH-4 directory/data/sound/diesel engine exterior file and open it, it just plays the sound but doesn't let me edit or view the "wav." file you mention

That's because opening the file just accesses a program the lets you play it. Okay, click Start and search for Sound Recorder. Windows always has one in there somewhere. Once you find it create a desktop icon so you can get to it any time. You need to go to Sound Recorder first, and use it to bring up and open the file. Then you can change the volume, pitch and play with a couple of effects.

SS,
Thanks again for your help... But, when I click on the "sound Recorder" in/Accessories on my system it says "no sound recorder found". I went ahead and downloaded the (Goldwave.com) software, and am able to edit the sound file I wanted to, but, again I think I'm screwd because I actually want to "increase" the volume which is already "maxed out"! So in the game the "ambiant exterior sound" drownds out my "Submarine_diesel_exterior sound? Also if I turn the master volume or spkrs up to hear the engines from the bridge then all the crew voices and guns and wave sounds are too loud? Oh well, it is just a game after all!

Ska"l, captnmike :-)

I checked, and I can make you a copy that's much louder. The problem is that it really is maxed out, which means that any louder than it is will cause some serious distortion. I have one question - Are you listening from the bridge or from underwater outside the boat? I ask because when I listened from those places it seems way too loud to me. I'm not sure what's causing it to not be loud enough for you.

OK....I am playing with activated mods:GFOv1.1,3000 meter bearing tool, aye sir sound mod,EAXsoundsim_without_webstersManeuver_StockorGF O,ThebeastBelow_Exhaust_DecalPak_v1.5,Webster's 100' Underwater Visibility for v1.5.
Also in addition to these mod's... I replaced the stock Submarine_Diesel_Exhaust wav file with...TMO_2s file, because it has a much deeper (realistic to me) sound. And in answer to your question about listening location, It is only on the surface on the bridge or at the guns (deck or machine). If I zoom in w/external cam up real close to the stern I can hear it OK, but it is still too "soft" a volume for my likeing? I should add, that if I replace the "sound file" with the original "sound file"the volume level is OK?
I will try to attach the actual sound file to this message,.... Here goes???? Well I don't know how to attach it. Can you advise me how to ?
Thanks, captnmike :-)
