21 Greatest-Ever Space Photos
Moon Buggy
Few species of photograph are as purely, simply awe-inspiring as those taken of—or from—the outer reaches of space. We've collected our 21 favorites. Case in point? Apollo 17 astronaut Eugene Cernan takes a ride on the moon, December, 1972, fulfilling, by proxy, the dreams of both nerds and gearheads everywhere. http://www.life.com/image/first/in-g...r-space-photos

A couple of the images have an interesting story. The Apollo 9 shot, was a little bit of a fluke. Rusty Schweickart took the shot as he waited for Dave Scott to fix a camera. This gave him three minutes to just take photo's and enjoy the view! He never went back into space ad he suffered space sickness. He still counts the three minutes watching the world go by as one of the most amazing moments in his life.
The photo of Joe Kittinger free falling reminded me that one of things that happened on the way up was his suit sprung a leak, so he covered it with his hand and didn't tell anyone! On the way down for two and half minutes he fell through space and the only thing he could hear was the sound of his breathing and his heartbeat! Great photo's! ![]() |

I can't imagine free falling from that far up. My personal record is twelve feet.

The feeling of falling so there must was amazing, but all a bit scary when you have no real control of the situation, but yet very beautiful...

A Star Trek picture is among the greatest?

That trek picture looks too modern. Didn't they redo the old series a few years ago and jazz up the special effects?

I'd argue that it is somewhat appropriate. A lot of people got their first taste of space exploration from that show, and went on to do whatever they did to further that dream. Quote:
