Default Hosting problem

Hi guys, i write you from France and me and my friends from Mille-Sabords.com can't find a solution for my issue.
Here is my problem:
I run DW on win7 64x and i can't host any session:
after the screen where there is "TCP/IP provider....ect" i have a message that says: "enable to host session because of error"

I don't understand because i have no problem to host when i boot my computer with Win XP............

I precise that i already tryed without antivirus or firewall stuff....

So is there someone who had this kind of problem? or the solution ???

Greetings from France....Solcarlus

You probably mean "Unable to host session"! "Unable" is the opposite of "enable", and means that DW could not get it to work. You wrote it as indicating that it does work. Though it doesn't make sense grammatically in English. Anyway, let's not worry about semantics.

I don't have (much) experience with DW multiplayer, I'm just trying to help here figuring out what might be wrong since I know a bit more than the average person about Windows 7.

Could you describe how your computer is connected with your friend's computer? What sort of network exists between you two? Do you have them in a LAN (like being nearby eachother, connected with just a single cable or 2 cables with a switch inbetween), or are you two seperated by the internet? So, then does each of you have a (NAT-)router in between?

There should be a textfile in the game folder called "adapters.txt". Could you post the contents here?

[EDIT]You are not alone:

If you are separated by the internet, with routers on either end, then the hoster probably forgot to enable portforwarding packets on his router to his computer hosting the session. This means that the router allows packets to pass (through a specific port number) from the internet to go to the LAN-IP-adress of the DW gamehost computer. If this is not set then the router simply ignores packets from the 'joiner' on the internet. The router acts also as a sort of firewall. Which port is required to be 'opened' I don't know. But is probably mentioned in the DW manual. HOW exactly this is done depends on the manual of the router (of the person hosting the game). The joiner should specify the internet-IP-adress of the router (as opposed to the LAN-IP-adress) of the person hosting the session when he wants to connect.

yes of course it was Unable.....
I'm also unable just to copy a symple word!!!!

For my network: I've got a DSL connection with a router between us
we're used to play with direct IP....

Adapter.txt:
Connexion au réseau local - IPv6 - fe80::a597:41c:e64f:8f7
Connexion au réseau local - IPv4 - 192.168.1.74

"connexion au reseau local" means Network local connexion....and the IPv4 is the one connected to my router

Note: things worked well when we used Hamachi......but we don't use it anymore......

thanks for your reply.....
wait for a solution

So, is he at your place connected to the same router? Or is he at his own place (behind his own router.... or just somewhere in the internet)?

Yes my friends are behind routers....

But it's not the problem i think because as i said: the same network configuration works well and i can create a hosting session when i boot on winXP.
So i think that it's a problem between Win7 and my router .......
I already tried to forward ports, I also cheched the file "dangerousWater.ini" where there is a line at the bottom called "adaptername" and the value is "ipv4" so The game knows that it's the good adapter to use.

Does Win7 have any other issues with networking? Can you get on internet through it at all? I guess, but it's allways wise to verify. If Win7 is incompatible with your router then I suggest to consult the support department of the brand of your router and ask. But if you experience no other (temporary) network problems then I don't think there is an incompatibility. Are you sure the drivers are upto date?Aside from driver incompatibilities with your networdcard (perhaps because it is 64bit) Win7 properly adheres to the network standards.

Did you ever set portforwarding for both 2 sets of port ranges? In the readme.txt text file in the DW gamefolder it mentions a specific port (iirc 6 thousand and something) to initiate the connection, BUT ALSo a larger range (iirc 2302 to 2400) for the actual game communication. Also, if your router assigns a different IP adress to your computer every now and then (after a certain number of hours or days the computer looses the IP-adress lease if it does not renew it), then the packets may be forwarded to the wrong adres than specified in the port forwarding. See if you can somehow reserve an adress for your DW server in your router.

Then I'm afraid I cannot imagine what could be wrong. Perhaps you should contact Sonalyst and ask exactly what this error message means. What the error report triggered. It's a quite vague message to be honest.

Yeah, go figure. It is supposed to make communication through the NAT/Firewall more customer friendly/easy.
