Default Frustrating career

Summary of career (90 percent realism); TMO2.1 and RSRDC; I am patrolling the designated areas;

Its September, 44. Started 1n '41. Currently operating out of Saipan.

I have seen 4 fleets of fishing boats, and attacked one.

I saw one TF which changed course at a range of 5,000 yds., after I set up for an attack. I couldn't catch it, and it outran my boat.

I saw a second TF, followed by a third, off Saipan, but when I closed to attack the game crashed repeatedly. I replayed the mission with from an earlier save, and missed both TFs.

Sank one solo light cruiser (5,100 tons) off the Bungo Straights.

Hit everything merchant i was aiming at using O'Kane, until I fired 3 torps that all missed. I had set up for aft shots and proceeded to fire all of my forward torpedoes, which sailed into the sunset a mere 180 degrees off course. Then I attacked a merchant in a rain storm. As it approached within 5 degrees of the firing point, my radarman stopped announcing the target's bearings, and I wasted four torpedoes as a result (they were fired blind in the dead of night at a target I could not see.)

Finally got tired of O'Kane and started using manual targeting. Sank the first merchant I attacked. Hit the second merchant with two torps but that only slowed it down. I reset the firing solution accordingly, but missed on three more shots, which ended that mission.

Tonnage to date: 197K (all merchants except for one dd (stationary and at anchor in a harbor) and one light cruiser (5,100 tons) No convoy attacks (not counting the one fleet of fishing boats) and no TF attacks!

Shot down one plane.

I have been awarded 6 Navy Commendation Medals, two purple hearts and have been promoted to Leitentant Commander.

Default

Best traffic for 44 is Formosa. Manila is also good if you sat outside the harbor, lot of traffic leaving, seems Oct and Nov were good months. Don't forget the Yamato makes it's final run in April 45 coming through the Bungo.

Default we need armistead's armchair guide to WW2 naval engagements.

Armistead should post an all inclusive favorite missions list, detailing the locations where major actions take place, including coordinates, dates, etc. Then we can look to it than Subpac or RSRDC for exciting careers, assuming we can survive the various engagements. I would be thrilling that is for sure. Except for transiting to the sites, the action would be hot and heavy, and would certainly tax many of our computers' graphic cards!
