Default Guidance on mods for SH V

Hi all,

Used to play the very early versions of SH...been away for a long time. I'm looking at buying SH V sometime soon and was wondering if someone could point me to a thread that shows me the essential mods I should grab after patching SH V to 1.2. I did a basic forum search but got too many results for my weak brain.

I'm guessing this question is asked a lot, so I wonder if it's just buried somewhere in the FAQ thread. If so, any chance a forum mod could put the info in a separate sticky?

Thanks!

I know the quantity of available mods can be puzzling. Check this thread:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=173193
and see which mods are most widely used.

Pay special attention to "New UIs" and "HiDef Interface" mods - these two are 2 popular mods changing interface, check their threads to see which one would suit you better.

Whole the rest is just options.

I am puzzling over this one myself, I guess as a community we are spoilt for choice by two great mods. Which one have you opted for and why?

While HiDef is better eye-candy wise and resembles my favourite SH3 mods I loved closer, it is purely an interface mod with not much more in it.

New UIs is far inferior aesthetically to HiDef, but is even farther superior when it comes to wealth of functionalities it offers. Scripts, configurability (!!!), flexibility (HiDef can be played only by manual targeters, while NEW UIs doesn't bring any of such restrictions), and many more NEW UIs' elements made it my choice. Frankly speaking, I didn't even need a minute to make my mind.

Hello all,

being new to this forum (not to SH game series, played since the no1) i recently purchased SH5 (which isnt bad as most ppl say^^) and i was looking for some mod that looks like what TMO was for SH4.

I dont like aircrafts ia (they never attacks me, never) and i'm partial about ship IA, TMO was awsome for that for SH4, if you knew some mod released or some project of doing something similar to TMO i would be very happy ! (browsing the mod list in the mod section isnt very self explanatory regarding contents)

v

edit : to precise my question i'm looking for some mod that alter ia and map marker, but not like it is in SH5 (seeing even the sensor range of ennemy is plain stupid), i'm looking for something like TMO markers, with no more information than a simple dot or square on map to show plane/ship, no more info (no bearing, speed, type...) that's what i loved in TMO when playing on realism (using those marker only)

Don't know about markers. As to "AI mod", check IRAI - it didn't fix the non-aggressive aircraft for me, but ships behave better.

Thanks a lot ! i've read the description of IRAI mod, it seems to be what i'm looking for regarding AI. I will test it now.

Now i have to wait for a map marker mod

edit : i've found some great mod that modify map markers so i dont have tail and type info on map (still wonder if i can mix them) : http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...69&postcount=1
it's in the optional mods for this UI mod from TDW

IRAI has the no tails mod I believe.I'm far from an expert, but I can tell you DarkWraiths mod is excellent,as it gives you so many options.DarkWraith advises to run SH V in the SH V enhanced mod.I like the SH III mod a little better for me.There are a lot of threads on how to make changes with the IRAI mod.Main thing to remember is the last mod you add makes the final changes in you mod setup.I try to keep that number of changes to a minimum, but again that is just how I like to do it.Welcome to SH V,and enjoy!
