Default Black and White sinking photos

Off today about to load up a patrol and get some time in before have to go take care of things. While browsing through screenshots I decided to convert some to grey to try and look like the old scope pictures of IJN ships sinking from WW II.Could make them look better I suppose if had more time but oh well.Share some black and white sinking photos(without TDC dials and all on the sides) if youd like.I snapped this one when t his 'Uknown Maru' fell victim to USS Salmon in January 1944.

Just tried doing one of these last night

(Kiturin Maru, sunk at 07:30, Dec. 11th, 1942, Bismark Sea)

Used The Gimp, [www.gimp.org] with the "double HSV film grain" script, then blured it a bit. First time I've used that script so I still have to do a lot of playing around with it before I can get it to look like grainy/contrasty film.

Most Periscope shots I've seen from that era were pretty poor looking. I read somewhere that the head served as the darkroom. Probably hotter than hades in there so I assume the films would tend to be over-developed. ISO 200 was considered super fast film at that time.

Oh yes. I'll post some more as opportunity presents. Unfortunately I'm a coward, so if a ship has escorts, I'm on my way to the thermal as soon as the last torp. has been fired - I usually don't stick around to watch the fireworks.

Not sure what kind of cameras/film they used or the rational for taking these shots were (anybody?).

Default For a bit more realism....

....try using the "motion blur" option (if you have it) in your Effects. If you look at most of the photos they are usually slightly out of focus etc due to the difficulty of getting a camera up against the periscope and steadying the camera/ship enough etc to get a good shot. This combined with what you are already doing should get that "authentic" look.

What a novel idea.

Here's my interpretation:

I'm in my U-Boat right now, but I'll post some more when I tire of the Atlantic (or it tires of me - and sends me to the bottom).

OR are Uboatwaffe Periscope shots welcome if their made from Operation Monsoon?

BTW, That's a really nice shot you posted.

Thanks. Picks from any side are welcome. ComSubPac could always use some new Intel.

Pretty bad shot because the ship sank like a stone, and it was very dark, and I'm not great with filters.
