Default Bagged my first Bogue ever!

Oc.t 42 and I have just bagged my first Bogue carrier. I was tracking a convoy, or what I thought was a convoy. As I was doing an end around, another group of escorts hove into view. I thought, oh no, not another convoy. I veered off to the south and detected another group of escorts. Now I was in danger of being pinched by two groups of escorts. Scanning through the scope I saw a Bogue and four Clemson escorts. Now I knew where those Avengers that forced me to dive were coming from. The "convoy" I thought I was tracking was actually a task force. I had four eels left, 2 steamers and two electrics. I fired a magnetic electric from just under 5000 M and it dudded! Next I fired a steamer, which did hit. The Bogue settled by the stern and stopped but showed no signs of sinking. Knowing she wasn't going anywhere I took several hours to evade the Clemsons and worked my way to the south of her, where I fired my last electric. A hit and she began to settle a bit by the bow. To ensure the kill I fired my last steamer, which detonated and I hauled it out of there as fast as I could. She sank and I sailed for Brest, where my itchy neck was finally scratched with a Knight's Cross.

I've been wanting to bag one of those pesky Yankee carriers for ages and now I've done it.

Oh, yeah! I have bagged my fair share of Brit carriers but the elusive Yankee has been my white whale, until now.

Let's see if I can get these to show. I've posted pics in other forums but this is my first try here:

I have more, but these basically tell the story. These are low res, resized from the original bitmaps which are about 2 MB each. There's no way I'm going to clutter up the forum by posting the originals.

Will the carriers launch their planes against you? Does the game actually animate them taking off and landing? Will the planes all take off from the carrier if it gets hit and starts sinking?

So many questions!

Congrats too! I'm jealous!

The game does not simulate carrier takeoffs and landings. However, the carrier will spawn planes in the game. The planes you see on deck are just eye candy. If you see a carrier there are likely planes in the area. You usually see the planes before catching a glimpse of the carrier. Most of the carriers I have sunk were attacked in the dark. During daylight it is hard to approach a carrier with her planes patrolling the area. I saw Avengers before I nailed this one so I knew there had to be a carrier nearby.

Guess what? I just nailed another one. Two Bogues in two successive career patrols. This one I nailed just around sunrise, so there were no planes in the air yet. Her escorts hunted me for a while and shook my sub violently, but no damage. I love the shaking effect from the DC shake mod. I escaped to attack a convoy and its escorts worked me over; destroyed my sonar and damaged a pile of items. I was eventually able to evade, then come off silent running to fix everything. My Kaleun has just returned to Brest. This current Kaleun has made five patrols for 230,666 tons of Allied shipping and I am sure he will soon be retired by SH3 Commander. I always make the most I can of my patrols as I never know when I'll be sent ashore.
