Resolution fix with widescreen help

For a while I've been using the SH3 stock resolution. I'm trying to get the hi-res fix to work, but the only thing I can set it to is 1440x900, my monitor's native resolution. This works, but I get unpleasant horizontal stretching, so the optimum solution would be to use 1200x900 and have the vertical black bars on the side of the screen that's not being used. However, when I set the resoultion fix to anything but 1200x900, I get a CTD. I am using Nvidia, and have tried it both with the Nvidia aspect ratio scaling and no scaling at all.

Any ideas?
