Default D = Death!

Ok so on my 11th patrol now in 44 so coming to the end of the war. Had a nice 4 boat convoy in my radar sights (weather is awful - like dooms day style!) and this convoy has 3 escorts so i figure its going to be a nice set of 4 big boats!

Anyway, I've managed to take out 3 of the 4 over the space of 24 hours but on diving to get away from the escorts I have noticed something. I wanted to go deeper then the red line at 165 so figured i would hit the 'D' shortcut key! All is good at 230 so i try to stop the boat diving, no use! I just keep diving and die at 260!

Any ideas on how to get out of this dive? I'm sure I tried the shortcut for maintain depth!

U-Boat missions installed and also 2.0TM+ Max Optics

Well the general thing would be BLOW BALLAST (more than once), set your dive planes for say periscope depth and if you have the guts for it increase speed. (I would increase speed if the "diving attitude" had already changed). Anyway I dont thing you're ever going to order a "crash dive" from a 165 m depth from now on, eh! . Now, don't quote me on this, but I think U-boats had an additional depth "margin" of 50% their Test Depth. For fleet boats it was 100% IIRC.

Did you take any damage? Can't imagine why you couldn't pull out. What boat were you in?

One thing that helps, mostly with damage, but helps to pull out of deep dives is to use the periscope button. Don't know why, but if you just set your depth to rise or hit surface often you stay still, while hitting the periscope button will bring you up. This works with a out of control dive while damaged, but once you get up, you head back down.

Did you have any extreme angle to your dive. If you are out of control going down by the bow, use reverse flank. Using forward speed will just send you down faster. If you're going down by the stern, obvious flank forward or whatever amount of speed will stop the out of control dive.

Almost always blowing tanks, periscope button and using speed opposite the dive plane will bring me up.
