Default Sonar - blah

First of all, hi to everyone on this forum =) I love this game, and after my promotion on work I finally have time to spend on the game again. So I am a noob again. :/

Yes, I was submerged on periscope deep and just been into combat where i got down 2 DD and 1 Merchant, and after this I needed to get up to the surface to fill up oxygen and etc. And suddenly, when I was on my way up, something hit my boat, I got into the periscope and when i turned it to around approx 220 bearing, I saw 3 destroyers, one were 400-600 meters close. And I took full throttle and tried an evasive maneuvre, finding out i was just doing 2 knots for some reason, believe something got damaged.

Well I found out I'll just take up the fight with my 4 rear torpedos left. I locked them and etc. i got impact on the 4 I shot. It turns out, one of them didn't sink, it just rammed into the first sinking destroyer.. And after a short while, they was all 3 down, dumb me drove the way to the closest port, which as that case was brisbane. I then found a convoy, who were unescorted, it turns out those 3 destroyers where escorts of that konvoy.

And me, having nothing else left than som rounds of my deck gun and those on my 2 AA guns, got them all down, they where 5 in total.

I dunno why I am telling you this, but I just wanted to 'brag' about this, when I got to brisbane i had 93 rounds of AP AA ammo left.

And my question, why wasnt them picked up so I could have prepared to do this.

EDIT: Anyone have any cool mods or anything? =)

Welcome aboard!

Sometimes your sonar guy is a bit dumb. Prior to surfacing, I usually take control of the hydrophone and make a quick circuit. It has saved me from some surprises.

As for mods, we have a separate forum for SH4 mods and there is the downloads tab just above the forum. We gots plenty of mods.

Welcome aboard again.

Another check is to have your scope raised as you surface and helm about 20 degrees to always clear your baffles.

You said you just did battle, did you take any damage to sonar equipment..

Ships can also go stationary and wouldn't be picked up on sonar.

If you're playing stock you can easily take on DD's with your guns, unrealistic, but fun when you first start. Load one of the supermods if you
want realistic battle...you'll think long and hard before doing gun battles with DD's as you'll get blown out of the water fairly fast.
