Default New to DW - need advice :)

Hello,
just decided to take the plunge - i have played SubCommand for a long time, with a lot of mods and changes, and still like it very much.
I would really like to see an up-to-date version of a cold war subsim like "Fast Attack" back then, but i guess Dangerous waters is the closest currently available.

Ok, first i have to buy it - i guess it's available at the Subsim store - will look there.
So my questions: are there any patches, and should one use all of them - can you recommend any "mods" ?

P.S. Still have WinXP, but plan to change to Win7 soon - known problems with Win7 ?

Thanks and greetings,
Catfish

Runs just peachy on Win7, using the latest patch. Not sure about mods, still need to look into that myself really.

I did enable 'disable desktop composition' in compatibility options.

Just install the game outside of the Program Files folder or you'll get mad trying to mod files or even add missions to the scenario folder. Windows Vista and 7 tries to prevent file manipulation in there. I can't remember requiring compatibility mode.

Definately requires the latest patch.

As for mods there's not many, or atleast, I only have experience with LWAMI and some audio file swaps. Check http://www.subguru.com/downloads.html, or the Commanders Academy and Dive Center: http://www.commanders-academy.com/wi..._Waters_-_Wiki

LWAMI is spectacular. A must-download mod.

If you want to have access to 40 playable units spanning french, italian, german, english, japanese and australian subs besides the evergreen american and russian subs well go download the RA mod.

And sorry for my late reaction, have been working too much recently

Good advice, thanks ! I am looking forward to this one
I heard about the Lwami, but not RA - is there any chance to install them both without screwing the sim up ??
