Default Terror suspect sings Avril Lavigne

28-year-old Khuram Sher was arrested today in Canada on charges of plotting terrorist activities (source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-11102833 ).

But here he is in his "better" days, trying out for Canadian Idol

He didn't fit in with that robe and hat.

Could it be he turned terrorist wannabe because he felt rejected by society in general.

He speaks fluent English though.

That's a common story actually. A lot of terror suspects that have been caught, or even carried out their acts, were fluent and on the surface relatively well-adjusted in the West; hell, many have been second-generation. Rejection is relative; surely it plays some role, but it is also known that extremist organizations often target young, well-adjusted, second-generation kids - as well as converts from non-traditional backgrounds for Muslims. I wouldn't underestimate propaganda aimed at radicalizing them.

On the other hand, it also doesn't hurt to make light of this. There's a lot of rhetoric aimed at dehumanizing terrorists and viewing them in a totally detached light. Meanwhile here is one of those terrible terrorist bogeymen, bungling his way through a silly audition. I think it's good to laugh at them every once in a while too.

Singing anything by Avril Lavigne counts as a terrorist act in some countries....
