I'm halfway through reading "The Pacific" (haven't seen the HBO series yet). One of the personalities is a divebomber pilot and he had just received the "new" Helldiver SB2C and states the same thing as this article, that the plane was not liked at all. SB2C = Son of a Bitch 2nd Class. He mentioned the failure of wings to lock down in position and 5 guys sitting on the wing on the deck to help it lock. Tailhooks would rip off on landing etc causing the plane to crash into the crash barrier etc. Yup, it was apparently, a Beast.

I wonder if the guy took a picture of the image on his fish finder. That would be interesting to see.
