I wish I could say that the US government was backing Israel. But that is not the case.

Is there any reason why the US government should be backing Israel over the incident?

Maybe Israel will try attacking our ships with unmarked jets again in an effort to draw us in.

Tensions at the border are rising since throughout spring and summer. the actual incident is just the tip of the iceberg, a symptom.

Oh, it'll probably wind up with a few big airstrikes on south Lebanon, Hezbollah will throw Katayushas at Northern Israel, Israel will return with airstrikes, rinse and repeat for about a month and then it'll go back to normal.

Either that or Israel will take south Lebanon again and start kicking in some Hezbollah for six months or so before withdrawing...but I'd say that Israel wouldn't go into Lebanon again, it was a PR disaster last time and with all the PR disasters they have been having lately they can't really afford another one...so it'll be retaliatory airstrikes on what Hezbollah will call 'hospitals' and 'baby milk factories' and so on and so forth.

Nothing particularly unusual about tensions between Israel and Lebanon.

I don't understand why the US is expected to back anyone. Im kinda tired of the whole palstianian, Israel, middle east conflict BS. These people need to make peace, or finish what they started. Either way, it needs to end already, and I see no reason why it needs to include the US.
