Task Force...VANISHES

This may have been posted somewhere else, but honestly, after a couple of searches I was unable to find any reference to it.

I spent the evening patrolling, and then found a juicy convoy to stalk. I set myself up almost perfectly, and waited...

As the task force approached, and as I was setting up the TDC for an initial shot on a Liberty, the entire task force vanished from my scope. It was like the Bermuda Triangle. The sonarman had no contacts, and though the map contacts (which I have turned on) were there, they stopped moving and gradually faded.

I reloaded from an earlier saved game when I was in the same position. I moved closer, submerged, and tried again. Another hour or two...and...*WHOOSH*

They vanished again.

My thought is the convoys may spawn somewhere, but may also have an end point. Is this a known issue, or is it just me?

Well that's a (spelling error removed) move on Ubi's part. I was smack in the middle of the patrol area when I picked them up for interception, and that is where they vanished.

I would curse like a sailor, but I don't want to get banned.

i assisted in your "ahem" spelling error as that wasnt the best choice of words

as for why it happens its so your game can work better, if the game kept all its generated stuff going you wouldnt have enough computer to run it and it would crash so to prevent that the game limits how long things are there for and tries to avoid having things vanish on you but its blind luck if and when that happens to you.

it definately is a PITA espesially if your torpedo is halfway there when they vanish but its something we trade off for having the type of AI this game has.

Yes, thank you for that assist. I was rather annoyed, and my "spelling" tends to suffer at those times.

For what it's worth, I was able to, knowing what would happen, use it to my advantage and with a bit more daring-do than I would normally indulge in sink 2 of the ships in the convoy and avoid detection long enough for the entire task force to *poof*.

Had it just happen to me. I was tailing one I had destroyed a bunch of them and waited for destroyers to get far enough so I could go around and finish them off and poof .. all gone.. Even had one of he destroyers I hit with a torp half in the water and half out. No credit for the sinking but it was stuck there. I go back and shoot it with deck gun with no damage at all .. I get close enough and they start to shoot back with small arms. It is still alive apparently with no meter for health. I'm getting tired of some of these indestructible destroyers..
