Default Anybody recognize this boat?

Back when I visited the Submarine Force Museum in late May, I stopped over at the UCONN campus in Groton to grab a bite to eat. The nearby marina was jammed with dozens of boats, but one caught my eye.

It was so extraordinary I had to go out of my way to photograph what appeared to be a relic from the 19 century amongst all those modern fiberglass-hulled motor boats gleaming in the sun. It looks like an immaculately preserved relic from the 19th century, with that stark black hull, clipper bow, and extraordinarily tall mast.

Do they still make boats like this, or is this one a genuine historic artifact? It looks like it belongs in a museum somewhere, but I haven't had any luck finding information on historic boats in the area (except the Nautilus, of course!)

Actually, subnuts, yes, they are still around. I saw one at Lake Texoma last weekend. Her name was "Knota Care", and she was a beautiful, streamlined ketch (two masts). Almost the same color, too.

She's over at the "rich people" docks. I'll see if I can't get a pic for you next time we get to the lake. There are also some other boats of the same style, so I'll see if I can't get pics of some of those as well.

Is that what a Ketch is? I always wondered. Do all ketches have two and only two masts.

Its a Gaff rig sloop.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaff_rig

Popular due to their good 'balance' and ability to more or less sail itself on nearly any point of sail. Not to great up wind though.

Some hobbiest may build one from scratch or some sort however it is most likely about 50 years old.
