Using 1.5 and TMO 1.9
After a mostly uneventful passage from Pearl, I arrived on station in the East China Sea. I had taken several depth charge attacks from a persistent and very alert destroyer along the way and although I did receive some minor damage, my repair crew put everything to right again in short order- zero percent hull damage and no systems showing any damage , I continued to my station in perfect fighting condition... I thought. After completing the long journey and during the course of my patrol, I spotted two merchants who were on course to pass one another in opposite directions at a distance of about 1600 yards... I was thrilled to find that their courses and my own position would allow for a nearly perfect firing solution for my boat to take out both ships with shots from both bow and stern tubes at nearly perfect angles and distances. I licked my chops as I waited silently for these two sheep to sail blissfully unaware right into my sites. I fired 2 stern torpedoes at the first target as she entered the kill zone. Sweet! I immediately shifted my attention to the second ship which was now coming into the perfect position for my attack on her. My fish were all set up, tubes open, waiting for just for this moment to complete the synchronized attack; I fired the first of what was to be a 3 torpedo spread... nothing happened. Instead I get a message that there is too much damage to the tubes to fire the torpedoes. WTF? I quickly checked my damage screen and sure enough- no damage of any sort anywhere on the ship shows up. Next I check the crew status- torpedo room fully staffed and all crew members showing alert. Readiness of the compartment shows in great condition- fully green and ready. I try firing tube two- nothing. I try firing tubes 3 thru 8 all are no goes. Each showing the same message- too much damage to the tubes to fire the torpedoes. What is going on? After chasing down the second merchant and taking her out with my stern tubes I am returning to port now with but a single fish left to me that I can use. Hoping that IT is not a dud if I need it.

Did you load a save game at some point?
My last Patrol I got caught in the stern by an air dropped depth charge. Both stern tubes were destroyed. When I next loaded that Patrol, the damage screen showed both tubes as in good working order. 'Sweet' I thought. However, they would not fire. Seems like a minor bug whereby loading a save does not fully update the damage control screen. The damage is still there though. Could be what happened to you? |

Tubes were destroyed or badly damaged if it said too much damage. Sort of have to pay attention, as if they get totally destroyed with one attack there is nothing to repair, thus they show no damage. Not sure it's a bug or not, but seems to work that way, so pay attention to your messages more than the bar. If they are damaged, they may repair in time.

I DID receive damage to what I thought was my stern tubes during the depth charge attack that I mentioned- I recall the message scrolling by but the message received was for damaged, not destroyed and my repair crew repaired the damage. == At any rate- I made it back to Pearl in one piece without incident or regret for the useless torps- seemed like the whole ocean was empty but for me.

I think its a bug leftover from damage zones being reworked from stock.This happens to me from time to time.Will get a report of it in the dialog box but it doesnt show up on the DC screen.Obviously some charges were close enough to damage your tubes but not the bulkhead etc.
To avoid surprise, after every depth charge attack or close bomb/charge from planes, I cycle through the my tubes and hit Q key to open then close outer doors, if you hear the "hiss" and a report of the door being opened then close on each tube, you know its okay.If you hear no hiss and only report of door opening, then try to close it and it wont, you know its non op.The tube is destroyed. |

regardless.. i can use up to 1 week, realtime on a single mission, if i am to
remember each and every message about damage to my boat, i would get the nobel price in something im sure. Lack of visual confirmation on damage to ones boat is a bug no matter how one looks at it ![]() nappy |

Hopefully this little "bug" does not extend to hull damage. You could be crushed well above what you would be expecting and never know why.
Come to think of it, I have read here some stories where people are left asking why? ![]()

had this happen to me also, decided to have a little gun battle with an armed merchant, apparently his 20mm's did quite a number on me and i never knew. hull damage only showed 5%, and a couple minor things damaged like the deck gun. gun crew was slightly injured.
after the battle, my crew would not sleep, nor would they repair anything that was damaged. then i was showing 7 crew dead (all of the gun crew) when i went to periscope depth. Co2 was rising, battery wasnt recharging, but engines were running. saved game, exited to desktop, reloaded. hull damage then showed 31%, 1 crew at 4% health (rest 100) and a ton of things mild broken, including batterys, tubes, deck gun, bulkhead. Co2 released and oxygen compressed. so reloading is what fixed it, but i never knew how badly my boat was beat up (damn 20mm's) Patch 1.5, TMO 2.0, RSRD + patch. |
