If you are talking about official upgrades to the game from Ubi Soft your guess is as good as mine. They have decided to keep all their customers in the dark about anything to do with the Silent Hunter series.

But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting...

As for community created mods.... I believe the release date is and always has been, WHEN THEY'RE DONE!!!

I wonder if that's because of all the negative comments posted on this site and the official one? They couldn't take the heat so now they refuse to give anymore details. I guess they don't want us to be disappointed in the progress, or lack thereof, they're making with fixing this game. The community was pretty ungrateful but rightfully so considering the game was released in a very underdeveloped state. Thank God for this site and some really talented modders though. Without them, I would have lost interest months ago!

The cone of silence dropped long before the release.

If I was a betting man I would bet that it is tied to the release of SH4 and the problems that came from the community reaction to that and some nonsense that happened subsequently with some patch releases. My guess is that Ubisoft corporate slammed the lid on all Developer communication with the community due to the way that just about everything they said was twisted around and used to bash Ubisoft.

If that's the case you can't really blame them . We are just reaping what we sewed.

Sadly I have to agree with John's take on the situation. To say it got out of hand would be a gross understatement. I too would have cut all direct communication after that cluster.
