Default RIP Big Butter Jesus

I guess God takes that "no graven images" thing pretty seriously after all...

Fortunately, we still have Heywood Banks' song as a timeless tribute.

And apparently it cost something like a quarter million to build... all that for what was essentially a six-story high metal structure covered with flammable material, sitting in a pool of water, lightning rod sold separately.

Hey, you know what doesn't get struck by lightning and burn up if you spend a quarter of a million dollars on it? About a quarter of a million other things they could've spent that money on that might've actually put food in an empty stomach or shoes on a poor kid's feet.

It is a good thing there are absolutely no poor people living in that area or any other charitable activity that would need funds.

I am not theist, but I am sure that spending money on a big plastic buddy jesus is not the optimum use of church funds.

Sounds like this church has its priorities set.

I still haven't figure out why the people of Monroe, Ohio needed a 62-foot tall recreation of Willem's Dafoe's death scene in Platoon smack dab in their back yard.

Actually it would be what many anti-"socialism" conservatives claim to prefer, which is letting private charitable organizations (including those that are "faith-based") attend to the needs of the needy. Of course that doesn't work if the organizations in question would rather spend money on self-glorification.

I'm sure some would argue that the statue was built to "glorify" God but I can tell you the lightning show we had last night hereabouts was a far more impressive show of "divine power" (for those who see it that way) than some tacky statue could ever be.

And this : Neu said there were lightning resistors and grounding rods in place around the statue and amphitheater, but they failed to divert the bolt.

Makes you wonder

What would have happened if instead of a styrofoam Jesus, they had built a giant plastic golden cow?

Not to get to technical but there is no such thing as a 'lightning resistor' and they dont 'divert' bolts rather the system is supposed to provide a safe path to ground for a strike as opposed to the structural elements of a building.

One thing is certain about lightning protection systems if nature can find a fault in the system she will

I design LP systems as a professional so if you really want to know about them I'm the guy to ask.

ps; Did you know that lightning actually travels from the ground up to the cloud and not the other way around

Yeah... the phrase "solidified gasoline" comes to mind.
