Default Battle Tactics For Type XXI Uboat

Evening fellow SH3 fans.

Been playing the game ever since it came out, platying it with GWX3.

My question is I seem to be good at evading escorts in older uboats even in say 1944 well by that I mean I don't get sunk all the timeand I have only got to a stage in my careers to getting a type XXI probably 10 times but I never seem to do well in them I always get caught and destroyed say for example just my latest career did 5 patrols in a type IXC/40 between 11/42 and 9/44 and sank over 200,000 tons, then I upgrade to a type XXI and get sunk first patrol out, I ran into a escort carrier task force , 1 CVE and about 6 escorts, got in the screen but got detected running at silent speed got off 3 torpedo's and hit and sank the carrier with 2 hits, crash dived to 150 metres then tried numerous times to escape at 15 knots or even at silent speed of 5 knots, went to 220 metres still got detected, ended up just getting pounded.

I thought at 15 knots I would be able to get away from the escorts without an attack, I guess I was wrong.

So what is the best tactics with dealing with escorts in a type XXI ?

Cheers

Late in the war when a XXI becomes available the allied sensors are well advanced.

I adhere to the 2 knot/silent running routine (as with earlier U-boat types) and only use the faster underwater speed for sprinting beyond depth charges and or hedgehogs.

Agreed..

Never go 15 knots when there are escorts above you, and drop the silent speed to 1 or 2 kts.
The 5 kts it horrible to try to evade.

It wasn't an escort carrier task group it was a ASW hunter killer group. You probably should have avoided it entirely.
