Default WW2 Weekend 2010 A LOT OF PICS!

My daughters and I enjoyed another day at WW2 Weekend. This year the Memphis Belle was present. A special treat....a Lancaster from Canada.

Seebees represented this year:

Radial close up:

Some iron from England:

And of course my favorite:

Sadly the rains came and we had to go. However, we did see the following aircraft fly;

P-40 (one beautiful aircraft)
Dauntless
Super Marine Spitfire (extremely fast and agile. Beautiful)
Corsair
Mustang
Texan

Alas we will go again next year and hopefully have better weather.

Beautiful stuff, two lovely bombers there, some great mud movers from the Seabees, a lovely classic Brit bike and the P-40 to boot.

Looked like a great show, shame about the rain but at least you got to see the Memphis Belle

I remember the first time I was ever inside a B-17. I was struck with two immediate observations

1. How incredibly small it was inside
2. How completely exposed and unprotected the crew members were from attack.

It must have taken some
BALLS to fly missions in those aircraft.

If you want to learn some interesting B-17 trivia, research the German Dornier DO 200
program. Most interesting.

What is even more amazing is the F14 Tomcat was the same size of the B-17 yet carried only two!

A little something to give back to you for your sharing and knowing how you feel about the P-40 and the AVG.

Lovely, lovely Lanc.

I had my picture taken with 'Picadilly Lily' from the TV series 12 O'Clock High, back when I was ten or so. I've seen lots of B-17s and a couple of B-24s, but never got that close to a Lancaster.

Thanks for the pictures.

Actually Jim when I took the picture of the Lanc and the British motorcycle I thought of you. Then I found out the Lanc was from Canada and I though of Kevin (RDP) The Supermarine Spitfire is absolutely beautiful. She is fast as hell. The Rolls Royce engine just sings. When you are 20 feet away and she is firing on all 12....you know it. What an aircraft!

The link shows the The Jacky C from NY....the one in the picture is the Jacky C from NY! I spoke with the pilot. Nice fella. He flew her in that morning. We watched her fly. What a plane. I was glad to have my daughters see her fly because one day she will be grounded for good.

I do have video but have not been able to upload yet.

I knew the Lanc was coming and that was a treat for sure. I have never seen one in person. The Memphis Belle was a surprise. It was great to see this B-17 also. The Lancaster is a very menacing aircraft. But she is also beautiful as well. The tailgun set up is quite unique.

The line to get inside the Lanc was quite long. I asked my girls if they were interested in getting in but they declined. She looks menacing I guess. Beautiful plane.
