Default So Where Do We Stand?

Haven't checked in since a couple weeks after release. From the reports i was reading i wanted no part.

Aside from bugs i looked at the video's and the tracking, map updates, & TDC looked like some sort of twisted arcade wwiii hybrid.

Right now i play SH3 GWX with OLC GUI as real as i can get it.

Is there anything close to that realism available for SH5 yet? Did patch 2 resolve most of the bugs?

Thanks.

No, there's nothing of the level of GWX after just 3 months and essentially 1 patch from the release of SH5. There's tons of great mods, but the modding is still in it's infancy so if you expect a GWX (or other 5 years of improvement supermod) you still won't find it here.

Patch 1.2 improved things to a playable state, but many bugs (even ones "fixed" in the patch) remain. As should be expected just 3 months from release.

Thanks kylania. I'll give it awhile longer. Hopefully OLC makes a whiz wheel GUI for sh5. It really turns sh3 into a true sim for me.

Reaper7 has released a UI mod which has the RAOBF built into the periscope.

Wow, perfect!

Hmmm. The game is $25 at Newegg. It's not so much the money anyway, but learning a whole new interface. SH3 GWX is so god awful good right now though...

Maybe i should just load it up, patch it, mod it and give it a whirl though

I think for the money, after the patches and mods SH5 is really worth it. I have spent more money on worse games, I know that for sure. Also, it can only get better.

I was also enjoying SH3+GWX. Terrific game!

But, now that I've patched and modded SH5 and have spent a few weeks living in this world, I can't go back. For me, the immersion is the big thing and I am loving walking around my U-boat!

Speaking of immersion... I've been holding off buying also, for several reasons. The AI was one of them, but from what I've read here, there are some aggressive AI mods available. So that still leaves a couple of things I've sort of been waiting on:

1) Have the modders been able to do anything about the campaign goals yet? Specifically, the ridiculous requirements to sink X number of battelships, etc. instead of realistic targeting of enemy supply lines. Or is that something that can just be ignored and you can still progress through a campaign by sinking cargo tonnage?

2) Any progress on including more cargo ship types?

The campaign fixes so far were lowering the tonnage needed for the stock campaign and upgrading the skill level of escorts.

There's some fantastic work on harbors being done, but hasn't been integrated into a campaign that I've seen.

Basically campaign fixes are waiting till the final patch. Also the guy that was doing most of the campaign work and importing ships work has gone on holiday or something for a few weeks. So nothing's happened on that front that I've seen either.

Define working.

It is kind of working. You can distribute experience points, and upgrade different crew members abilities, but not on the same level as SHIII was. Some of the skills that crew members have are unrealistic, however, there are mods that improve the skill/experience aspect of the game. So, in other words, with the right mods you could count the crew skill part of the game as "working."

Most of the abilities are near enough useless, and the morale still seems on the blink at times, other than that it's working fine!
