Of course.

You use the JSGME which was included with GWX. You use it to add or subtract mods.

Download any mod you want to try, put it into the MODS folder in the SilentHunterIII directory, fire up JSGME, select the mod and load it using the > button. If there are any conflicts between mods you get a warning. Fire up the game and see what happens.

I have some mods in my signature. One of them is a nautical chart that adds timezone lines and lat lon grid to the map so you can figure out where you are.

There are probably thousands of mods. Most people run a dozen. Sometimes called a "mod soup".

Oh yeah. Many of us have long lists of mods we use. There are graphics improvements, sound mods, add-ons and gameplay mods, all waiting to be added. There are mods that improve the harbors and mods that add more than 100 new ships to the mix, mods that make most of the sound files into scenes from Das Boot. And of course there's SH3 Commander, which creates a background and career for your captain and lets you micromanage your crew and also gives a name, cargo and crew number to every merchant you sink.

There's a whole world opening up for you. GWX is just the beginning.

@ Sailor Steve

I've been looking at incorporating some different mods into my mix and I've noticed you're running most of the ones I'm trying to get working together.

Specifically I'm trying to add Ace's Crew on Deck stand alone for GWX and it both edits the commands file which is changed by FM_NewInteriors and also wants to overwrite NSS_Uboat dat files from the Waterstreams Kombimod.

I have the last two installed just fine, and the commands are easily fixed since I think the change is mentioned in the read me, however I'm not sure if this mod won't break WaterstreamsKombimod.

Any help is appreciated.

My seven-year-old single-core system only allows me to run so many different things before it crashes, and FM new interiors isn't one of them.

I keep a special folder with all the mods I've added. I keep copies of the 1024.ini, the Dials and the Commands.cfg, set up the way I like them. After I've installed anything new I compare the Commands files for changes. If I don't like the changes I reinstall my 'special' one. If the changes are necessary or I like them I change my 'special' to reflect the new configuration. It's the only way I can be sure everything works the way I want it.

I think what I would do in this case is uninstall Waterstreams and reinstall it after New Interiors. Either that or compare the lines they have in common and rewrite whatever you need to manually.

I don't know the actual answers. Mostly what I do is experiment as I go along and then save it all the way I want it and put it into my 'Special' folder for next time.

I'm not bothered with changing any .ini files, especially if the readme gives me the specific lines I have to change, I'm more worried about those .dat files from Kombimod that Cew On Deck wants to overwrite. I can't imagine all those nss_uboat.dat files getting overwritten isn't going to break something, not to mention I don't know how to edit those or if its even possible without some proper modder's program.

I guess my question is, does anybody actually simultaneously use Waterstreams Kombimod and Ace's Crew on Deck Standalone for GWX?

I'm not really concerned about FM Interiors since all I'd have to do is c/p one new command as far as I can tell. I am however stuck on those nss_uobat.dat files.

We discussed the reasons why that would't work. I put it up here to show why it's impossible do describe and explain every single mod to everyone who asks. There is already a good thread explaining what different people's favorites are and what they do. Perhaps it should be a sticky.

Have been downloading a lot of mods for the past couple of days. Had to reinstall windows. Vista this time, don't really like it, but that was my best choice as I couldnt install XP for some reason anymore (got a BSOD and a 0x7c error).

But luckily I got SH3 running under vista, starforce free using the fixed exe. So that's the good news.

Anyways I downloaded a nice little mod yesterday: RealDC_4
Gonna try it and see what it's like. It makes depth charges sink faster later on in the war.

I found it in the download section under gameplay mods.
