Default What the hell am I paying these people for

My crew.

About the only thing they do, when they feel like it is load the torps and shoddily run the engines.

Ive seen multiple contacts before them. Contacts I managed to locate on the hydrophones before them. Been shooting at planes coming in then going out when. "Fluegzeug gesichtet Herr Kaleun!" No really? Did the flashy tracers pointing at it alert you?

The one thing they do well apparently is naptime. When ever they feel like it. This is the Kriegsmarine, not a daycare, and Im babysitting them. We were prosecuting a contact, went to periscope depth then were racing to beat the contact to the 500 yard launching point when my entire engine room crew decides its once again naptime. They all apparently fell asleep at their stations, not before shutting the engine down for some quiet. So my carefully plotted solution flys out the hatch and I have to do the whole thing with the scope, then surface and finish it with the deck gun. I swear I wish we could do some old school Napoleonic era Royal Navy discipline. There would have been a couple of seamen and mates hung from what passes as a yardarm on the goodship U-51

Epic first post. Lolz. Thank you. Welcome aboard

If you use SHC, you can turn off crew fatigue like I do.

Yeah, I use the no fatigue option as well. That way, there's no micromanaging.

I agree. Turn the fatigue off. You are a submarine commander not a babysitter. In RL noone needed to be told what to do during their watch. They knew very well.

Have you checked if it's already patched to 1.4?

Get yourself one of the supermods (GWX, NYGM, WAC, etc) and SH3 Commander and disable the fatige.

Oh, and wellcome to subsim.com

Don't blame your crew while neglecting your own duties, Herr Kaleun.

Good men are made, not born.

In stock SHIII, the thing about fatigue is it only works up to 32x time compression. At 64x and higher TC's fatigue levels stay the same - no one ever tires or rests. On the other hand, at 32x and below the crew tires much, much too fast (at least inexperienced crew, once they have some experience and a collection of medals, they get better. My most decorated officer stopped getting fatigued at all after earning German Cross). This confused the hell out of me in the beginning, too. Now that I know how the system works I always remember to pay attention to fatigue levels if I spend long periods at 32x or less and I have no more problems with "naptimes".

As for crew efficiency, try to always have the green bars in crew management filled to the max, this helps a lot (my crew usually performs quite well except for the sonarman who always notices new contacts long after I do).

One of the problems/features of SH3, even with GWX, is that you are always better than your crew at spotting and hearing ships. With some practice, you will be a better deck gunner, too.

No clue about flak gunning though...

Or so with SH3C set the deck gun reload time to zero, more blasting time not wasted on hanging around for your crew to reload the gun. Or so great if your going out in a blaze of blood guts and glory against them destroyers.
