I am playing with GWX, and have started a 1939-1940's in a IIA, so needless to say, the usual Western Approches hunting grounds are out of range.
On the 2nd day of the war, I was able to bag a nice 10k ton cargo ship, and took out a V&W near Scapa, but otherwise I am not finding any ships except for a occasional fishing boat. anyone know of good Grids to check out for merchants in the Nord Sea? Cus I need to get some merchants so I can upgrade to a VII so I am not stuck with a IIA! |

You might also want to consider hanging about the north east tip of Scotland (east of Scapa Flow) and cath the traffic coming round 'the bend' heading for the English east coast.

You can always fish up and down the East coast of England on the way to and from your assigned grids. The Type II is small, so if you get trapped in shallower water (obviously if it's shallow enough you're in trouble, regardless of size), you can use that to your advantage.

Plenty of Br mercs travelling from Narvik way to Scotland
From late Oct 39 you will also get some nice fat convoys going between Methil Roads and Bergen ( and back ) though they have a high proportion of neutral in them |

Thank you all, I fianlly found some decent hunting grounds, and now I am more then half way to getting enough Renown to get a VII when they are released for use.

Or you could simply go to (presuming you've got XP or Vista OS) your career folder Patrols_0 CFG found in C\MyDocs and change the DeltaRenown to any amount you like....ensure your in port before you do this.

True jimbuna, I might give me a one time boost on this one as I prefer to get a little Renown for station-keeping, but the first few patrols in GTX I didn't have that set up, so I might "rollback" SC 3 and give me a small one time boost to make up that I didn't get credit for that on my first few patrols.

Just make sure your in port after a patrol and the game has been saved before you dabble with the CFG file.

![]() IIRC stock values for reaching grid and completing patrol are 500 and 200 respectively. |
