Promotion in SH5?

Can somebody explain this to me: How does the promotion process work in SH5?

I have 67 "Promotion points" to be spent in my recent career.
I assume that there is some way how to promote your crew members?

If you take a look at this picture the shoulder boards of all my crewmen stays blank but if you do an mouse-over it says "0/100".

Is there a way how to promote my crew or is it just another feature that ended up not being implemented in the final release?
I tried to click on the shoulder board icon but no dice.
They have been at the same ranks since the beginning....

Here's my tutorial for about how to spend your Promotion Points!

First open your crew management screen. Either the little crew icon in the top right or press "H" then click Crew, the left most tab. Here you'll see your captain and crew.

As you can see here I have 1 Promotion Point to spend and I've lost all my crew morale since I loaded a save. You can also click the little Iron Cross icon in the bottom right of your picture to see what, if any, silently awarded medals you've won.

I think I'll give my Cook the ability to cook a special meal so that I can gain back at least some of that lost morale. I'll click on his picture like this:

Oops! Looks like I don't have enough points to train the Special Meal ability. But here you can see the other things I could train. Hover over a box to see what it does.

I guess instead I'll give my point to my torpedo guy to make him faster at reloading torpedoes. I'll click Discard on the Cook's page and go back to click on the Torpedo Man's icon. Here I can click on the first icon there, highlighting it to make him reload tubes faster. Click APPLY if you're happy with the point spending.

Once I'm back at the crew screen I can click the little circle next to my torpedo guy to see that I've increased his ability a bit, as shown here.

Hope that clears things up for you!

When a crew member has enough experience to be promoted he'll get a small gold + over his picture. Click on that to award him his medal.

Thanks for the reply but I understand all that. All my "crew abilities" are already maxed out. What I was curious about is if you can actually advance your crew in RANK? My watch officer (Dieter Epp or whatever his name is) has been Matrosen Obergefreiter since the beginning. Very unlikely, considering that 1WO should be (minimum) Fanhrich or Obenfahrinch.

What does that 0/100 stand for?

Pretty sure the 0/100 is the experience your guy gets. When it gets to 100 he gets his little Iron Cross medal. All the rank names are messed up I think, so I rarely pay attention to those. Actually, I rarely pay attention to any of it since Morale is so broken, but hopefully after the patch it'll be worthwhile again.

That's what I though: after you award the "Iron Cross" to a crew member there's no further advance. Boy, how I miss the rank progression of SHIII and SHIV!

After a few upgrades, my crew members begin to get little dots in that black area (it almost looks like the rank 'dots' in Star Trek uniforms)...so I assume that with further experience it will fill up and maybe I can promote them.

I do use the 'Morale Mod', so that may also be affecting things...

I'd post screenshots, but need to set up an imageshack account first.

Thank you!

It's better if you do, since once you post something you have no way of finding out the URL again! If you have an account it's all kept together.

Thats ok...I just decided that while I was there I would create an account anyway. It really was painless and quick! Thank you for the help!!

I just took a screenie of my crew management page, and would post it...but unfortunately I was shocked to see that the little dots that were there last night have now disappeared. Perhaps they are only visible at the time of upgrading the crew abilities, as a reminder or something.

Odd...I know I saw them last night.

Anyway, no screenshot needed at the moment, since it looks pretty much like what was shown in the post above. I will assume that the dots DID mean something, but the answer must be above my paygrade.
