Default May I ask for help here?

Please forgive an old simmer's ignorance, but I am lost with something.

Where do I place PHP files? There are all these wonderful mods that I am seeing, and most of them appear after download/opening as php files.

What do I do with these? Where to place them?

I would like to become more familiar with this great sim, but feel as though I am hopelessly behind the curve. I see this forum is populated by a group of hobbyists every bit as knowledgeable and enthusiastic as the flight sim community with which I am familiar, and am certain I will find direction here.

Thanks
Chip B.

It sounds like you are doing a right click and then 'Save Link As...'. Is that what you are doing? If so, just left click normally on the link and it should take you to the download page.

Hi YTN you need winrar or winzip because all the mods are zipped also they work in the jsgme mod enabler when you install the mod enabler it puts a MODS folder & the jsgme yellow G icon on your desktop or when you install it direct it to c: program files ubisoft sh5 directory then when you download all the sh5 mods upack them with winrar & place the folders in your mods folder then click on the yellow G icon in your main sh5 directory folder you see available mods on the left hand box & active mods in the right hand box to activate a mod just click on it then click on the right arrow to move mod to the active right hand side box
then fire up sh5 & good hunting

jones soft mod enabler link below

if you need any more help you can contact me on skype id blackswan40

regards blackswan40 salute

Welcome aboard YTN.
This is a great forum and everyone is fantastic about answering questions in a friendly enthusiastic way. Enjoy your sub! (it's a lot colder and darker than airplanes, but you'll get used to the diesel smell and noise eventually)

Sounds like you're not downloading the files properly. Seems like when you see a link to download a mod you're saving the link rather than following it and looking for the download button?

For files locally stored on SubSim.com here's how to download one.

Lets say we wanted to download ddrgn's No Ship Reflections. We see this link on the mod's release post:

If you right click on that link and "Save link as..." you'll end up with a downloads.php. This file won't help you at all, it's just the output of that page. You need to follow the link to get to the download page itself.

From that second page, as seen below, just click on the little "zip" icon to download the file. The yellow/blue folder in a vice icon.

i have also noticed that many mods are not constructed correctly to use "as is" the way they are when unzipped

you need to know what to look for so read jscones jsgme user guide instructions and be sure the mod format is correct befoe you place it in jsgme

I am with the crowd who mentioned you may not have the correct tool to unzip .rar files or whatever that compression tool extension is.
I did the same thing the first day, wondering why i am getting these files that jsgme did not recognize as mods.

Also, i found this page to be awesome help with using jsgme http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...34&postcount=2

Hopefully something in this thread helps ya out. Keep us posted

He seems to be getting PHP files though, which are web pages, rather than RAR files. Anyway, it doesn't matter if we give too much advice, he can sift through it all when he gets back :-).

Heh, ya, I didn't have much to offer (not much of a file expert at all) but figured I would post the mistakes I made at first.
Likely embedded in there is my desire to find out I am not the only one that made such a silly mistake

Wow! You guys/gals (?) are every bit as responsive and willing to help as any flight sim forum!

I can't say "Thanks" often enough. I believe my problem was this stupid freeware download manager, which was doing something weird to the downloads. Once I deleted that piece of trash (I spit on it before I deleted it, btw), all is well. I've got the JSGME software, and have successfully imported a mod into it.

You all appear to be a great group, and I am really glad to be here! Now, how do I get the sub off the ground?

When I came back to subsims a year after SH4 was released (first subsim I added mods to), I went to install a mod and I was so eager to get something working that I just didn't read any instructions properly and got really frustrated.

Well, people have been having success with a sort of reverse blast off method.

Which sim do I fly? Hard to say with any certainty, actually. This sort of gives you an idea:

Actually, I favor FS9, but also FSX.
