I would say Tambor/Gar. Reason is that they have 6 bow and 4 stern torpedo tubes against 4 bow and 2 stern torpedo tubes like in Porpoise. Tambor/Gar is also slightly faster (in vanilla game).

Probably the Gar, although the Tambor aint bad either. Both had 6 tubes forward and 4 aft. Also the Gar was the precursor to the Gato, which preceded the Balao etc.

In the game the Tambor and the Gar both use the Tambor hull, Tambor conning tower, and Gato interior. So basically they are the same submarine.

If I remember correctly, the Gar takes longer to normal dive than the Tambor.

I never compared the crash dive.

I'm thinking on the order of 2 minutes to get to 60 feet on the Gar.

But the Gar seemed to charge the batteries faster for some reason.

Take all this with some salt. It could have been because of different crew that made the diving difference.

If you are using a MOD, then the Gar may have been changed. In the stock game if you check the Gar folder you will see there is no .sim file, which is where the info is that would affect dive time. In fact there is no, .dat, .sim, .zon,.val,.cam or .dsd files, it uses the Tambor files.
