Default RFB 2: Sub Diving Times

I was wondering- the dive times for fleet boats in RFB 2.0 seem pretty short; meaning, I think that they might be too quick.

I find that my Balao class boat can submerge in well under 30 seconds. Wasn't the actual time closer to one minute?

hehe agreed, in fact I think most of the subs in this game dive WAY to fast. I know some people like the fast dive times, but for me it just does not look right.

Real-world dive times were tested with the boat running at 15 knots on the surface, and that's how RFB simulates it.

Don't forget that the dive time isn't the time it takes the sub to get underwater, it's the time it takes to reach a ceratin depth underwater. O'Kane tested his sub and found that he could dive in 35 seconds from a standing start and in about 30 seconds with a running dive.

When a boat was to leave training and go to active combat service, they were evaluated. The qualfication time as i understand it, was "under a minute" or 50 seconds, depending on what source your reading. That being said, with extra work and training, a fleet boat could be brought to periscope depth in as little as 30 to 35 seconds. Diving a fleet boat, by one account, is an art form.

Luke said you would be the right person to ask - how does crew experience affect the dive times? Do they decrease a lot or by a small margin and can this be edited?

It seems that the special ability affecting dive times is the only factor that can improve dive times. Crew experience/efficiency doesn't seem to play a role at all.

According to the Fleet Submarine Manual, the minimum time was 60 seconds:

Quote:
A quick dive is made when the ship is underway on one or more main engines. The bow planes are placed on FULL DIVE and the forward speed results in a maximum downward thrust on the bow planes. As the submarine submerges, the upper surfaces of the hull and superstructure act as planing surfaces and increase the downward thrust. The quick dive is the fastest of the three types and is used in acceptance trials of new submarines, when it must be executed within 60 seconds from standard diving trim.

To add to my post above: the depth that was used was periscope depth, as Ducimus alludes to.
