New Nvidia drivers are out

Ya'll may have already noted this but just thought I'd let you know in case you missed it. Too busy sinking Tommies and all. Haven't tried 'em yet myself - just downloaded from Nvidia. Good hunting.

Are these safe to use yet?

Last time they released them, they said to uninstall em because it could make the card run too hot.

Last drive fried my 9800, just the same day I bought SH5.

I sent a complaint form to nvidia, and the answer was in few words: "We are very sorry that has happened."

Installed last nite.
I see no issues so far.
This issue is to fix the Fan problem for one.

I had to revert back to the previous version because the newly released NViDIa Control Panel (bundled with the drivers) is missing "Change signal or HD format" under the "Video & television" tab.

It is essential to me to be able to switch to 1080p from 1080i.
On 1080i setting (the only available when setting multiple displays) my HDMI output "shakes" really bad.

I always thought that the new version (of anything) should be an improvement over the previous version... WTF?
I guess I should not be surprised, look at the SH series...

My 8800 died after the install of the latest drivers. That's the way Nvidia wants its customer to buy a new card. Bought an Ati 5850 however.

I used to chase the newest drivers, but I decided to only run what MS certifies and makes available on my current rig. It has worked out ok so far for my 9800, I do not miss the extra baggage that comes with the extra shiny bits.

Is there ever any real benefit to a new driver? It's not like you suddenly get 5 FPS more is it?

That's a good question, General. I've found that in most cases I get more visual improvements in the form of reduced graphics glitches in some games when I use new graphics drivers. Usually I don't see any large FPS increase but it's happened before. For most folks, I guess the adage, if it ain't broke, don't fix it, applies well enough.

I am happy with my "old driver" as of this time, and I see no reason to install the new one. In the past, I have noticed a marked improvement only once on installing a new video driver; most of the time there is only an incremental improvement, and some risk, as some of you found out.

I had to update the drivers as the old drivers were not compatable
with SH5.

So far everything seems OK.

Thats because its usealy litle tweaks or performance increases to specific programs

for example "Adds SLI and multi-GPU support for top new gaming titles including Assassin Creed II, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Command and Conquer 4: Tiberium Twilight, Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes from Liberty City, Mass Effect 2, Napoleon: Total War, and Zombie Driver."

Usealy with a new games releases there are also newgfx drivers to tweak them.

197.13 Nvidia drivers with nHancer work great with my GTX280oc. Makes it look a bit better and the frame rate increased. No ctd's or other problems noted since install the other day
