No subsim review of silent hunter 5?

It has been out for a few weeks but i cant find anything on the site regarding reviews.....

for a game that has been anxiously expected for a year i find it unexplicable.

i have a hunch that there is something very wrong with it by the amazon reviews i seen, DRM issues.

between starforce, targes , steam ,games for windows, securom and now UBI online, i have stopped buying games, sod them all .

these people are worse than microsoft.

i was looking to buy total war empires, but with the steam locked crap i refuse.

no wonder Dan Petrescu had nothing to say about DRM on the interview.

what a slap on the face to the subsim staff

There are dozens if not hundreds of player reviews here.

the only thing "official" we have so far received from Subsim.com on the matter has been a "Preview"

sort of like a pre-release review.

it can be found on the main page here http://www.subsim.com/2010_02/sh5/pr...h5_feb2010.php

the reality of the situation is...

SH5 is a decent subsim, especially once patched and modded.

but it is the experience of 99% of the fan base... that the game is UNPLAYABLE better than half the time with this DRM OSP issue of server connectivity problems

If you are refering to Dan Dimitrescu the lead designer (If you are going to criticise someone you should at least get their name right!), he probably was not involved in the development of the DRM itself but only it's inclusion in SH5, also at the time of the interview the DRM may not have been finalised and it's method of operation may have been unknown to Ubisoft Romania. Reading between the lines on the interview here I'd say Alex & Dan were ordered not to reveal the specifics of the DRM... "We cannot comment on this at this time".

I do agree with you that the DRM situation is getting however out of hand and also that Ubisoft are shipping unfinished games, sadly paying customers seem to be taking second place to shareholders and stock reports, I think the SH5 development team may feel as crushed by this as we do. The blame is at a "higher level".

Perhaps Neal is holding off the review until the next patch to give the game a chance, which may be a good idea as SH6 no doubt depends on the sales of this one and DRM is doing it no favours. It's not like anyone will be playing an earlier version when it will be autopatched anyway.

I am curious as to what Neal has to say. I wonder what the hold up is? I imagine he's wresting with his throughts, and choosing his words carefully. Maybe even holding out for the next patch so he can write a better review that what he's written? I dunno,. *shrug* My gut is telling me , he's review won't be stellar, but not entirely daming either. Maybe 6 or 7 out of 10? Just guessing.

It will be a 9.9 with -.1 for the DRM.

Don't forget that SH3 and SH4 had serious initial problems which were largely (certainly not all of them!) fixed after patching.

Neal is probably working on one of his well-considered, well-written reviews and waiting to see if any patch activity in the first month dramatically changes his assessment.

Think of it this way... if Subsim rushes to print with a "SH5 SUCKS!" review, it hurts the submarine simulation market by turning potential players away. We'll see down the stretch what happens with SH5, DRM, and UbiSoft... be patient.

Perhaps he is waiting for the first patch before a review is published.

Perhaps he's making a review of the game, and the game with the best mods available b

Well. I don't really care. I went back to SH3 and SH4

SH3 was nowhere such an unfinished and buggy product like SH5. Vanilla SH3 was and still is a decent game. No doubt that, after having played the GWX mod, the out of the box experience feels a little lame but this is largerly due to the incredible quality of the mod, not because the game lacked.

We have to remember the glut of people showing up at SS now required Neal to migrate files and such to a second server. This took a few days. Not much play time for SH5 when you are taking care of server issues on the site.

As stated already, there are plenty of player reviews here to get a good idea what state the game is in.

For me DRM not withstanding, SH5 is good.
