Default Frame rate issues

I have a QuadCore 2.5, 4GB, Nvidia gt220.

I know that the graphic card is weak but I can only get 10 frames in the sub doesn't matter lowest settings or highest the frame rate is always the same. It can't be my computer.

Any idea?.

Drivers updated. It can't be a problem of specs because there is no difference of framerate from the lowest to highest settings, I even set the 1280x720 and 1920x1080 and same frame rate on both resolutions!! ??... really weird.

I think sh5's team developed the game for the latest graphic cards.

In options panel, turn shadows all the way off.

Hi
Clean up your system, free some memory and the best result you get when you run game directly after reboot.
I have old obsolette computer and i run game just fine with this tips above. Change priority in task manager to real time, or highest - This gimme real boost to my fps counter.
Also turn off shadows, because i heard that Sh5 has some real issues with shadows on nvidia gpu.

I'm going have to try this next time I play. Sometimes FPS drop to about 20, and while not bad, it's bad enough

My specs :-

Athlon 3500+ (single core below spec)
Radeon HD 4870 1gb
4gb RAM.

Particles set to min and AA set to mid, all other settings are max (including shadows)
I get 50 - 60 fps
40 - 50 fps in control room
20 - 30 fps with 10 x Distroyers doing depth charge's attacks ( I dont notice any slowdown. i only know because i put fps display up).

Only prob i get is with explosions and water spray. Animation of explosions and water spray is slow. but everything else is normal. But this is due to my single core CPU.

I think nvidia cards have problems with the shadows.
I also think Duel CPU seam to have problems with the fps. because a few members have reported huge FPS increases if they turn off one of the cores.

I have turn shadows off and after seeing it didn't work, everything else. Incredibly inside the sub same 10 frames.

I have checked the affinity and set the priority to real time... nothing.

I think I give up until a new patch is released.

Thanks everyone for the quick answers.

You might try setting the "Core Affinity" down to only 1 or 2 cores instead of the whole lot. Alot of software cannot correctly utilize multiple cores and you CAN POTENTIALLY see a major jump in performance by limiting the cores that run the game

I now use the following in my SH5 shortcut, to automatically set affinity to core #1 and #2 on my quad Q6600 processor.

I cannot say that I have noticed any difference with this, but at least I am trying it out for fun.

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C start "" /affinity 3 "D:\Games\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\sh5.exe"

Supposedly there is a flag for "set priority" but I can not get that to work at all.

I think I've improved my stutter/lag in heavy seas (high frame rates but not smooth at all) ....

thought it was the sea ...

then thought it may be level of anti-aliasing

but it seems its the 3D clouds .. disabled them and much better now

ATI 4890 (Asus) - overclocked
Q6600@ 3.5 gig
6 gig RAM

Hi Medina

Mail me. I run an nVidia too and I have an idea to tweak your GPU with nHancer.
Would be easier to explain by e-mail.
Mail me.
