Default Gorgeous graphics = less time conpression

While i may be very dissapointed on the unifnnished overall quality of the game, the graphics are truly stunning and thats even on my old 8600 GT with medium settings. There is a quality to the graphics which gives everything a moody maritime painting quality.

Is anyone else finding they are using time compression a lot less than in older SH titles?

Indeed. Every day about 12 i go from the commander bunk to the bridge to take a look and talk to the crew if senseful.

I love the graphics, especially the lightning mod.

Yup, same here. I was so mezmerized last night as I was coming back to Kiel marveling at the sun rays through the clouds, and the glistening off the water.
And how many of ya can't resist going for a swim under the waves and marveling at the seabed?
It's especially great to do in daylight and in shallow waters.

SH3 could never even come close.

It was also fun to deal with harbor traffic, had to stay sharp.

I thought this'd be a thread about how the high graphics means low-end computers can't use time compression as generously as in SHIII, and wandered in to sympathize.

well that too! I'm on a 2007ish machine but i can run it with decent frame rates when i tweak the settings. But for instance, the extra water detail does not make a huge difference, the base water is what makes it look so appealing, so i keep that bhiger detail turned off. But I'd love to see SH5 on a buffed up gaming machine with all the bells and whistles. No doubt the mod community will add many graphical enahnacements.

Actually I was surprised to find my system handles SH5 quite well. My CPU is about three years old. In fact the only two things I had to do to satisfy the requirements to what the detection tool said was in the "recomended" range was update my video drivers, and up my RAM from the 1gb it was.
So I updated my drivers, and $74.99 for a 2gb RAM upgrade and im up to 3gb now and SH5 runs smooth.
My CPU is an AMD 64 X2 dual core 4200+ 2.2ghz and I though it'd be far outdated for a newly released sim like this.
OS is Wndows XP Pro version 2002 SP3

You know perhaps at first I spent more time oogling the prettys and shineys. But once the novelity wore off and niggling annoyances started to set in I still spend 90% of my time at the 2D map.

Nooooo not me, I didn't buy such a graphicly strong game to sit and stare at a 2D map. I can do that without any game at all, or a computer for that matter.

I actually run it better than SH4... but I suppose you need to do like 1000000x TC to get anywhere in SH4.
