They are not as good as they used to be. Once, I could actually get what I was searching for without being bombarded by advertisements in the sidebars and would get only the best, clear, straightforward results out there. Now, the quality of the sites they choose to show up first are not based upon quality of the page itself, and furthermore, I feel as if I am walking through an Arab marketplace- the kind you see in those old films-- where there are people in their little stands shouting at you, "Buy from me! I have everything you'll ever need!" and "Cheap prices! Cheap prices here! Come see what I have to offer!"

Take this, for example. I searched "Titanic". Sponsored links list on the side:

TITANIC PHOTOS
Cheap Prices on Titanic Photos
Buy Now!
www.Pronto.com

TITANIC 100th YEAR CRUISE
The Titanic 2012 Memorial Cruise
12 Cabin Grades Sold Out, Book Now!
www.TitanicMemorialCruise.co.uk

Half the crap they allow as advertisements don't even exist. It just takes the general terms you search for, compiles them into a bogus webpage link, and sets you on from there. Otherwise, the nature is exactly the same, the only difference being that the webpage link does take you to a real website- just not one that's legitimate or one that has absolutely nothing to do with/no results for what you're looking for.

Google as a search engine? Today, it gets the job done. But it should be back to the old days when it was a superb way to find information.

Google as a corporation? A disgusting failure for those who use it. Their interests are now just about profits, nil for the people who use it. Most of us today don't like what they've become, just because the amount of influence they have over things we use so often (like YouTube, as a prime example) is immensely large, and they can mutilate them however they want. Now, you have to sign into YouTube with your Google Mail account information. How long is it before they buy out another site, and pull the exact same thing? It's just bloody annoying.

I never really cared for Google's search engine. I use it rarely, when Yahoo may not find what I am looking for. I like how Yahoo alerts you to potentially harmful sites.

You don't necessarily have to use your Gmail login with YouTube. I was using my Yahoo address for a while. I had created a Gmail address to play around with it (briefly had it as my main address on here, too). I saw something on the side of the YT page about seeing if anyone in your address book was on YT. I clicked it and became suckered into keeping that Gmail address because it was now linked with my YT page. I didn't really like that, but went with it. I then switched a lot of stuff over from my Yahoo address to that Gmail address because I don't want more than one webmail address. I found out that you can unlink your YT account with your Gmail account. I have since deleted my Gmail address and went back to Yahoo. I didn't realize how much I prefer Yahoo until I started using Google and Gmail fulltime for about a month! If I remember right you can unlink your YT and Gmail account by mousing over your username and clicking Account. Click Manage Account at the bottom on the left side of the page. Under the Authorized Sites section you should be able to unlink your account. I stumbled across that while messing around. Then, on the left side again, there will be an Email Options link. If you click that you can choose an address for notifications and such.

I use google a lot. I know one thing, if I'm looking up a run time error and get 0 results, I know it might be a long day.
