Ok, my crew stays up there and nearly drowns themselves. Why can't I be up their until the very last minute where it will force me down?
Do we really have to have realism to a degree where I have to walk my man down two feet of ladder to dive, only to have the hatch automatically close and no crew to follow me down? You can't have it all, so why force us to move down the ladder before we initiate the dive. It also adds an unrealistic aspect on top of everything, Captain's didn't have to exit the bridge when a dive order was given. The current form of the game adds precious seconds to a dive because the tanks can not start to be flooded until after the captain has walked down the ladder and entered the sub. |

Yes, get your azz down the hatch, then you can dive.

I agree with you Goatman. I asked modders already earlier if they could add keypress (or graphical interface button) to clear the bridge (move captain/avatar to different station as command room, periscope or elsewhere..)so we can dive fast. I hate the ladder climbing.

If I was on a real sub I would say ALARM! or CRASH DIVE! and then I would go down the hatch, not the other way around, it simply isn't realistic.

From the FAQ , Shift + U zaps you to the command room. Then you can dive (I think, haven't tried it yet)

Shift-U brings you to the bridge, not the command room. Bridge is where this problem occurs.

if shift+U could be remapped to command room or periscope, that would be all what is needed to sort the issue

But a real sub would not begin flooding tanks until the bridge was clear. This was a dangerous practice, and as far as I know, it was actually prohibited in the SOP. Not even because of the risk of crew being washed off, but because crash dive + open hatch = instant death for the entire submarine. So as it stands, the game is quite accurate in this regard. Flooding tanks before the hatch is shut is contrary to procedure, so it shouldn't happen.

I understand that you clear the deck before diving but it seems really weird to climb down the ladder, close the hatch behind you, and then order a dive with the crew still on deck. Would the captain be the last one or the first one or what?
Personally I'd like to order a dive and hear the order shouted around "Prepare to dive!" as you hear all of the watch crew scramble down the ladder and clear the deck. Once the last person was off the deck (crew or player, whoever is slowest) then it would trigger the order "Dive!" and down you'd go. It would be the kind of order where you'd give it but it would be "pending" until the deck clear condition was met. |

It'd be nice if they gave the option to order a dive while you're on the surface, equally it'd be nice if the watch crew actualy cleared the Bridge in real time (i.e. climb down the ladder and walk/run to wherever their diving stations are.)
On top of this, have it so that if you're on the Bridge and call the dive, if you're the last one off you have to close the hatch behind you, or else the Sub floods and everyone dies, equally if you're still on the bridge when it's going under - you die. It'd need to have it so that if you're not on the Bridge then the last Watch NPC closes the hatch automatically, mind. Maybe one day, never know what mods can do. ![]() |

Ok, so it was not common practice to flood the tanks before the bridge was cleared. However, the dive order is still given, and other preparations are made (dive planes, etc).
Also, while it may not have been common practice it was POSSIBLE. It's more a matter of how quick you can do things in real life versus the game. In the game it takes an extra 25% or so to carry out actions because you have to use a mouse and keyboard. The destroyers/planes chasing me aren't giving me extra time because they know I'm chained to a mouse and keyboard. It just takes away a lot of being a captain when you have to go to the bridge and physically move your avatar down the hatch. I want to order that dive from the bridge as soon as I see a plane. |
