UbisoftGameLauncher.exe crash

Impossible to start the game. Did the following (3 re-tries already):
1. Install game
2. Try to start (it autoupdates, fine, installed patch)
3. Start game, tells me it is starting, then it gives the error:
'UbisoftGameLauncher.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'

Error signature:
AppName: ubisoftgamelauncher.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.109 ModName: ubiorbitapi_r2.dll
ModVer: 1.0.0.109 Offset: 00053c7e

I downloaded the game from GamersGate.

I have not seen that reported by anyone else. Only thing I can recommend is to uninstall/reinstall.

I you are running Vista or Windows 7 be sure not to install it in program files , you will get all kinds of permissions problems.
I don"t know if that your problem but its worth checking.

I have Windows XP, with latest service pack. So that shouldn't cause a problem. I also didn't install in program files and not on C:. Redownloading the whole game + reinstallation also didn't work .

Also tried on another pc, same problem.

I have the same problem too... I total gave up on it. I have windows XP and if I select no to more updates it will launch the game fine. If I click yes and install the updates I can't launch the game. I have to uninstall and install all over again.

Same problem here. I bought through Impulse.
Uninstalled and re-installed, patch and BOOM: "encountered problem and had to shut down."

I also noticed in the SH5 folder that a lot of files had those "unrecognized" icons. More than a few were ".ACT" files.

Help!!

Yeah I purchased it through Impulse too.

When I click on the icon it says searching for gu.exe.

The icons look like this.

Same problem. Game is from PL distributor Cenega. Auto-updated, etc., then:

AppName: ubisoftgamelauncher.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.109 ModName: ubiorbitapi_r2.dll
ModVer: 1.0.0.109 Offset: 00053c7e

XP Pro SP3 (compilation 2600) up to date, mobo Asus P5Q Deluxe, C2Q Q9550, 4GB ram, Ati Radeon 4890 (newst drivers).

I think it could be some disk drivers (atapi, sata) errors. After installation of SH5 and reboot, IntelMatrix (8.9.0.1023) reported "re installation" of sata devices.. strange.

Best wishes,
Zaratustra

Is this affecting only those who bought direct download? Anyone with physical media experiencing same?

Default Download filesize mismatch?

I bought SH5 from Gamersgate and installed it, but I can't get passed the Ubisoft game-launcher: it gives an error all the time (same error as Crowbar pointed out earlier).
I noticed a mismatch between the filesize the Gamersgate-downloader shows and the actual size in the target map.
When finished, the downloader says: downloaded 4.2 of 4.2 GB, but the download-directory only contains 3.92 GB. That's 280 MB vanished?! I re-downloaded it 3 times: same result.
Do other Gamersgate-SH5 buyers have the same filesize in the target-directory?

This is getting more ridiculous everday, the retail copy arrived today.
Hoping it would work this time I installed it, updated it, and again the same error with the GameLauncher. WTF is wrong. Does it hate Windows XP SP3?

@ zaratustra: What do you mean with "but without DRM game runs OK..." ?

You're running without the DRM? I'd be careful about admitting that on here, if I were you, it's frowned upon.

First, to be clear about piracy:

It is actually taken picture, in background there is THIS threat page

What I mean in previous post, is that DRM is not really part of a game. We should differ game from it protection. Thats all. On my pc I`ve got StarForce (LO/FC/DCS) and even rare WIBU CodeMeter (with dongle) protects SB PRO PE and everything works fine...expect UBI`s DRM.

That's not the way it works here. We do not allow for discussion or mention of protection removal and No CD hacks either. SubSim's policy is clear in this matter.
