Default Why is the game "broken"?

I've read a lot of people complaining "the game is broken, unplayable, piece of s**t" etc. I've played the game too, even got later into the war. So I have to ask: what are those big problems that make the game unplayable? because I think that compared to SH4 vanilla it's much more stable and optimised. Of course the game doesn't stand up to the hype this forum has created around it, but asides from that, what exactly is broken? I've made a short list:

- ok, the depth under keel is a missing feature that should have been there. thankfully, it's easly modable by the hardcore players, while the "casual" players won't miss it anyway
- new interface, some like it more, some less. I think the new map design (including the "mini map") is much better, as well as the visible sensors on "easy mode" (very useful for learning the game; at least for me they were). There are missing buttons (abilities mostly), and that's a shame, thankfully there are shortcuts for most of them.
- different campaign design, I'd say a lot better
- traffic seems to be a lot more realistic this time (at least compared to vanilla SH3/SH4)
- planes don't attack; really? have you played a little more into the war? try it and we'll speak then
- escorts seem weak - same thing applies as above. Remember the game was designed to have a little bit of learning curve, not all players are hardcore
- online DRM - I've seen very few people complaining about it; it seems to work ok for the huge majority (there were many fears, like corrupted savegames, loads of disconnections and interruptions in gameplay - seems it wasn't the case)
- gramophone is missing and that's a shame, but i'm not sure how many of you were using it anyway (and by the way the game music is awesome)
- there seems to be no duds torpedoes - this is a very important bug for the hardcore gamer and I sure hope it will be fixed in the next patch
- many crew problems (deck watch under water, crew turning your back on you while speaking to them etc.). Yes. But! In SH3-4 there was no interaction with
the crew at all. And those games were still playable.
- suicidal friendly AI ships; of course it's laughable but it doesn't influence the gameplay in any way
- game manual is a joke (well, this is indeed unforgivable)
- probably other problems that I an't remember right now

I won't detail now the good parts (much improved graphics, submarine interior, more realistic harbors, more realistic traffic, more modable etc.), because I know the game is far from the perfect simulation, and those things don't make up for the missing parts (at least not for everyone). But I want to ask this question:

Why is the game "broken"? Why can't be played?

I'm asking this because I think some people really got their expectations way too high, believing that SH5 will be the perfect simulation, way better than any modded SH3 or SH4, a game made with the hardcore subsimmer in mind - guess what.. that's wrong! But not being perfect doesn't make the game unplayable or un-enjoyable.

good points, I actually agree. With a couple of quick-fix mods, I don't consider it 'broken'. Just rather rough. As it stands, it's not really doing any worse and probably a lot better than SHIII within the first week of its release.I didn't give up on that game since then and it paid off, so I've no intention of giving up on SHV. Just as long as official support is prompt in dealing with some of the more pressing issues here.

The save game morale bug is the only really game breaking thing I've come across. There are many major and minor annoyances but the morale bug needs to be fixed and quickly. I'm aware of the mod but that only gets rid of ability cost, it doesn't affect crew efficiency based on morale.

oooghhaa.. oooghhaa.. Dive ! Dive ! Fanboy spotted !

How about Morale dropping to '0' upon reloads ? Crew refusing basic orders (even though self-preservation should dictate otherwise) in many such instances??

"I'm sorry I can't do that right now" Eh ?? What are you talking about?

I thought the sub was a military vessel not a hippie commune where we all participate in the decision making process. Morale should have a 'floor' where the vessel functions are slightly diminished capacity.. not completely shuts down for negotiations.

But there is already a fairly functioning mod workaround. That will hold me over for now, until there is an official fix.

No offense but , you strike me as one that likes to Type alot and not READ the SH5 forums much.

This has been covered so much it's starting to sound like a loop tape.

Expecting working planes and navigation tools is having too high of an expectation? Perhaps yours are too low.

I dont know a compass is an entirely unreasonable demand.

It seems to have been found. There is a mod out to make it work, which makes me happy, as I used it alot. As to the in-game music, that's always the first thing I throw out. No matter how awesome it may be, I find it very unrealistic.

WELCOME ABOARD to you too!

Your comments are appreciated, but please be aware that we try to keep a mature forum here. We don't always succeed, but we try. Disgreement and even heated arguments are welcome. Instant flaming is not.
