Default The whole game = epic fail?

As there are the first ingame vids from the final release(http://www.marinesims.de/wbb2/thread.php?threadid=11936&sid=36d7b98e40faddbbd3a7 9a4f04a5431b) i truly must admit, i am really frustrated. There are so many things, that need to be fixed...

- glitches on mass...when speaking with crew members
- an 1 WO, who is hanging on the UZO all the time
- a watch crew in storm without the right clothes
- a watch crew without binoculars(!)
- nothing happens during ALARM
- nothing happens if you order "battle stations"
- a flotille chief, whos hanging in the bunker
- watch crew reporting ghost contacts...
- "diving" watch crew in storm
- no way to get onto the boat in the bunker
- animations more bad than in older games
- nothing happens in the engine room, when diving
- far to sterile boat interior
- crew behavior all time the same....

etc...

WTF

as much the graphics make me feel good, as much the vids of the final make me sad...

seems, as if the pessimistic people will be true...the game is far from finished.

Crash dive works, battlestatsions works. The rest is just esthetics. I played over 8 hours of LAN lastnight, no crashes and no major issues to report other than the external cam still works in 100% realism

I am currently trying it, I can tell you (only very first impression), although it has a different approach than SH3, I remember the last time I installed SH3 vanilla and from what I see so far, it seems like we got a much higher quality game.

IMO far too early to come to a fair assessment. There are indeed things that don't look too impressive, like the crew behaviour during alarm or when switching off the diesels, but a lot of your points are IMO superficial at best. Judging a game by a handful of (pre-release) videos simply doesn't make a lot of sense.

Wait another week until the 1st reviews will start to come up.

Everything you mention has to do with what you see in the crew and inside the boat.

But what about the rest of the game, does it work? The simulation part. I can understand your frustration with the animations and stuff. But SHV took a new direction with being inside the boat. But if the simulation part is still just as good as SHIII then I can look past some of those things.

Epic fail? Once again the developers delivered a very nice game. One that is open to modding like no other before. Even if this was completely dead nuts right on, no doubt, it is all there someone would mod something because it was "not right". It is a epic canvas from the looks of it. A canvas for the ground work of a very good simulation. Think positive men! Just the video alone I have seen is excellent. It needs some work but didn't the all?

Most people here wanted "eye-candy", they have that and nothing more! Their desire is granted ... You can't accuse UBI for that. And about permanent internet connection required as well, a lot of us here don't have a problem with that. So UBI is giving us what "we" wanted, an iron fist in a velvet glove. The "fist" being the bugs, glitches, lack of simulation, internet connection, and the |velvet glove" being the "eye-candy" graphics and some pathetic pseudo RPG elements.

Words EPIC + FAIL get more and more annoying every time someone putts them together...

Anyway, back to the thread:

- are you sure? In SH4 they only wore the right clothes during rain, not bad weather
- why wouldn't he? he isn't tied to the desk, and it is nice to be able to talk to someone in charge for a change, no matter how they simulated this in game
- it is the same engine as in previous 2 titles, so what is new??
- I don't mind, the bunker is a location where players spends what - 1-2% of the patrol time?
- I disagree, maybe out of sync with the instruments / captain, but certainly not worse
- what videos were you watching?
- not of the importance, and would be a waste of development time = impossible to do it to the level of quality as the moding community can
- same as previous

Remember SH4 when it was released? After a few patches, some spit and polish from the mods, i am sure this title will be awesome! Time will tell.

Rather than graphic glitches and quirks, I'd be far more concerned about serious gameplay drawbacks, like the impossibility to set the desired course, the odd periscope interface etc. These suit far better the definition of a failure than - say - clipping crewmen or sterile boat interior.
Just my $0.02.

What a thread...
Do you even have the game urfisch?
Maybe you should give your mind a break from thinking about SH5 all the time.
It sure has bugs and other missing features, but given time, it has the potential to rival SH3+mods (or SH4+mods)

On the contrary, one of the best and frankly spoken threads from this SH5 frenzy forum ...
