Default USPS Commemorative Stamps

The US Postal Service has 4 distinquished sailors on the their stamps!

Quote:
On February 4, 2010, in Washington, DC, the Postal Service™ issued a 44-cent, Distinguished Sailors commemorative stamp in four designs in a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) pane of 20 stamps. The stamp, designed by Phil Jordan of Falls Church, Virginia, goes on sale nationwide February 4, 2010.

With the issuance of the Distinguished Sailors stamp, the U.S. Postal Service® honors a tradition of excellence in the U.S. Navy that began with the authorization for two warships by the Continental Congress on October 13, 1775. These stamps commemorate four sailors who served with bravery and distinction during the 20th Century: William S. Sims, Arleigh A. Burke, John McCloy, and Doris Miller. The stamp pane identifies the four sailors, the approximate date of each photograph, and a ship named in honor of each sailor.

Their choices are kinda odd. How do you have a Distinguished Sailors stamp set without including John Paul Jones, Farragut, Dewey or Nimitz?

Good question, however, it did not state that these will be the only sailors. I would hope they would run them in a series that would include others. They have before.

Hmmm...I'd like Jim Hendrix to get his own stamp.

Won't happen, thought, for reasons that are pretty obvious (and stupid).

On the contrary, I read somewhere that the USPS is supposed to issue a Jimi Hendrix stamp this year.

Really?? Well, I think he's an icon of Americana.

(What gets me is I suspect he attempted suicide as a cry for help, but was successful...which I find bizarre, given his personal circumstances)

I don't think he attempted suicide. Maybe he was murdered, but more likely he just overdid it.
