Attitude towards SHV

Sorry for this rant, however I can't believe the attitude towards this new game. It seems to happen everytime a new version of silent hunter is released.

Yes I can understand the issues with the 'always connected to the internet to play' however this is the future. Also there are alternatives for people with no internet connection such as pay as you go broadband. Yes you will have to spend some money, but it will be worth it.

I just think we should be glad there is another installment to the only current half decent Uboat sim.

I agree. Allthough i have questionsmarks regarding certain features in sh-5 , i feel you should give it a chance. People just tend to see the negative things before the positive. I must however also add that ubi itself is to blame for this. I mean the game should be out in little more then a month , yet most features are still vague to say at leasts. People just dont know what to expect and this tends to make people a little nervous i guess.

I respectfully disagree.

It's not just the online requirement for me but also the idea that my savegames will be stored online and the whole scheme that I need such an account at all to play an offline, single-player game. I have no problems with a one-time online authentication but the idea of having to manage my games through online accounts doesn't appeal to me at all. Especially since this is THE direct path to pay-to-play, with soon to come "premium" accounts, followed by monthly fees if you want to play at all. Steam in this regard gets a special treatment from me because I appreciate their digital delivery idea which is a service I actually benefit from and I like them as publishing platform for indie games.

In the end the DRM fiasco was just the drop that spilled the barrel for me. I was already disappointed with the campaign ending in '43 , only the type VII playable, and I still don't know if I will like the campaign system.

I don't have to accept everything a publisher throws at me. If I'm not happy with a product I don't buy it. There are other games I'll enjoy instead. I started playing subsims with Silent Service I, but SH5 at the moment simply doesn't appeal to me anymore.

You do? You know for example how the campaign will be? Do you know how the game plays and feels once you have it on your pc? No you dont. You can only know when you play the game yourself. I,m just saying if you think it nolonger apeals to you then don,t buy it. But dont let me catch you posting on the forum finding out you bought the game afterall!

I don't know what colour the WO's hat is either, but that isn't what is important.

I'm going to hold my current opinion on SHV unless my post on "features from Aces and SHI that has since disappeared" is vaporized and rendered Unpost. If Ubi can't get their act together and give us a sim with more than one boat, a campaign that spans the entire war, and bring back some of the functionality included in a 15-year old game, I'm not gonna be a happy guy in the near future.

My concern would be particularly for those on a dial-up connection.

Have you ever considered the fact the the other u-boats and the rest of the war will be added in the form of addons?

quite to the contrary, rural areas are very much dial up only or in places like the plain states where its purely satelite only and when it rains or you have a problem you can be SOL for a while

my sister just moved from wyoming where they had trouble all the time with the satelite service and were told the had to wiat till they got a newer satelite (the one orbiting in space!) now thats customer service they had dish tv and there was NO other service available period, it was dish tv or learn knitting

big cities and well populated areas are well covered but any area where its what i call country living or spread out with open spaces around you have issues with things like broad band and high speed internet service
