Do you swear to tell the whole truth...... Meow !

A cat is summoned for jury duty. It seems the excuse that he is actually a feline is not acceptable

Probably a mix up between feline and felon

It's about time they started pulling their own weight and making contributions to society. Damn freeloaders, need to make more of them serve.

Most counties include an exemption card which can be torn off and mailed back to the county court.

I have fortunately been able to claim an exemption a couple of times as i was not a resident of the county in which the jury summons originated a couple of times.

all they should have to do is...

Check the box which states "Insufficient understanding or mastery of the English Language." and return the card.

depending on the cats age

they might also check "Have not reached 18th birthday."

or

"I am a senior citizen over the age of ____ " (whatever the county exemption status on seniors is if any)

or

write in exemption

"Unable to provide the defendant in the case with a fair or unbiased jury trial due to the following verifiable reason(s)"

and write "Im a Cat... not a human being"

seems pretty straight forward

all that aside... the best thing to do with the census is ball the F**ker up and throw it in the trash... its none of Uncle Sam's GD business.

So, if the cat doesn't show for jury duty he'd be considered a convicted feline?

sounds like some people just trying to get some press time.

In the State of Massachusetts, prior to being selected for jury duty each prospective selectee has to fill out and return to the court page three of their jury summons. It is on this form (http://www.mass.gov/courts/jury/graphic.htm) where you can notify the court that you (or in the case of a pet, the pet) is not eligible for jury duty.

So unless this family falsified the summons (and especially page three), this story is probably being embellished by some reporter on a slow news day.

I hope the federal government is looking at their census form to see if they falsified that too. On the 2000 census form there is no place to put pets.

Quote:
Sal’s owners, Guy and Anna Esposito, think they may know the source of the mix up: Sal really is a member of the family, so on the last Census form, Anna Esposito listed him under “pets”.
“I just wrote ‘Sal Esposito’, scratched out the ‘dog,’ and wrote, ‘cat,’” said Anna.

Well you are lying as there is no place on the 2000 census form for pets. If you put your cat's name on the form, you falsified the form.

Thank you for confessing to falsifying your 2000 census form. Under Title 13, Chapter 7, Subtitle 2, anyone who willfully gives an answer that is false could be fined up to $500.

If only they would prosecute these jerks.

Bah, just let 'em. They're not supposed to be voting either, but we don't stop that.
