Ehem...
 NFL...? What's that? OH, I remember, we made it giving up in Europe in 2007, after it lived for some miserable years without leaving an impression.  Now, do you know what the DFB is? It is the biggest organised sports association on the planet: the German Football Association.  People may not know what the Superbowl is, what is absolutely understandable  , but all over the planet they know what FIFA's continental and World Championships are.Last but not least, there are only 320 million US-Americans, but there are 485 million EU-people, 390 million Southamericans, 1 billion Africans, and 4 billion Asiens.  So when almost 6 billion people tell you 320 million Bowling-fans that FOOTBALL is the name of the game, cute tiny bowl-playing America better believes it...!

Soccer is a colloquialism. The official name is Association Football from the laws originally drawn up by the UK based Football Association in 1863 and now goverened by FIFA.
