Default Question about SH3 in widescreen

I know that this has been asked about million times but even after running search I cannot find answer to my question.
Santa brought me (with a lil' financial help from me ) 32" Sony Bravia XBR9 I will be using as my computer monitor. You should see CoD:MW2 on this thing! Wow, feels like being there...
Anyway back on the subject
How do I set up SH3 to run in 4:3 aspect on widescreen monitor?
I am using the WinXP resolution Mod but here is the problem: SH3 crashes when the resolution setting in the d3d9.cfg is different to your desktop resolution. I cannot even use nVidia Control Panel because all scaling options are greyed out.

My desktop options are:
1920x1080
1680x1050
1600x900
1440x900
1360x768
1280x1024
1280x960
1280x800
1280x768
1280x720
1152x864
1024x768
960x600
800x600

Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 2.2 GHz, 4GB RAM
WinXP Professional SP3
nVidia GT9600 XXX

I know about Rubini's great Widescreen MOD but I really don't like stretched images...

Can anybody help me how to run SH3 in 4:3?

last i remember reading was that someone was trying to convert the rest of sh3 to widescreen but it was tedious apparently and they required extra help. haven't heard anything since I'm afraid, but I too use a widescreen monitor and would love a solution either way.

Rubini's current mod only works with nvidia cards, however he couldn't overcome the problem with the sun having no bloom so he shelved it!

Hi Conus I have the same hardware that you have same nvidia card and processor but I use for XP the sp2 and I read in the readme of SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_for_1.4b
that it works with xp but sp2 ..I dont know for sp3
I try to help you anyway
normally I install step by step

- silent hunter 3 from cd

- patch 1.4b emea

- NET Framework 1.1 that you can download here

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/t...displayLang=it

-after I download SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_for_1.4b
http://www.aotd-flottille.de/wbb2/at...a7b10ff7c9ffc2

after download open the file.zip and extract the files now copy and past these files in the folder of your silent hunter 3

now in the folder of your silent hunter 3 make doubble clik with mouse on the file SP2 Res fix.bat

now open the file d3d9.cfg and now copy and past the follow test here
----------------------------------------------------------------

;
; DX9res Settings
; by Kegetys <kegetys@dnainternet.net>
;
; Note that this config is reloaded on device reset, so you can task switch out
; of the game, change settings from this file and then return
;

[config]
; ResX: Horizontal resolution setting
; ResY: Vertical resolution setting
; useFiltering: Use linear filtering for UI elements
; enableScreenshots: Hook printscreen keypress to save TGA screenshot
resX=1680
resY=1050
useFiltering=1
enableScreenshots=1
screenshotPath=C:\Documents and Settings

[gamma]
; setGamma: Override gamma ramp
; gammaRed: Red channel gamma (1.0 = normal, decrease to add brightess, increase to darken)
; gammaGreen: Green channel gamma (1.0 = normal, decrease to add brightess, increase to darken)
