Default Howdy from Capt Edge

Hello everyone!

I'm Edge (forum name Captain Edge), and I'm new here. I've been reading and learning a lot from these boards over the past few weeks, but haven't had anything to offer or to say. That changed today, so here I am saying hello.

I recently got SH4 and the U-Boat add-on, and I have to say that going from SH3 to SH4 has been a bit tricky, but now that I'm used to the interface (and now that I don't instinctively move my mouse to the left side of the screen!), it's a fun ride. I'm ALMOST ready to start manual targeting, but not quite yet. I still am enjoying my honeymoon period with my Gar class sub.

I have lots of experience with flight sims and racing sims, but I haven't played any sub sims since Gato on my old IBM PCjr back in the 80's. I've missed the genre, and I'm back.

Thanks for all the great info posted here including the history. I'm a former History major and former Marine (12 years; got out as a SSgt to move my kids closer to their grandparents) and I really appreciate all the military history here.

Quick side story: one of my CO's used to let us use government computers to play games during our off-time as long as it was military-based (including games like Battletech, etc). He figured that as long as it was teaching us strategy, tactics, or history, it had to be a good thing.

Welcome aboard jarhead! I have a similar story to yours. One of the officers wanted to use my copy of Janes 688i to help improve tactical skills. Whatever helps I guess. But it didn't quite fit the bill to what they needed to represent.

Thanks everyone!!!

I've really been enjoying the site, the forums, and of course, SH3 and SH4. I only recently got the U-Boat add-on, and I really do like the improvements. I haven't installed any of the mods yet; that'll probably come within the next few days.

Welcome to Subsim Captain Edge. Good to see another fellow Texan! When you do dive into the mods for the U-boat add-on for SH4... you should really check out Lurker's 'Operation Monson.' (There's a lot more to it than just Operation Monson itself. Good stuff there.)
