Default Super mods

I've been playing TMO for the past several weeks after playing the game stock for the past year. I see some really nice eye candy in this mod, it has also made me quite proficient at crash diving to avoid the aircraft. Alot of the touches remind me of gwx from sh3 which i thought was a good thing.
Didn't like the Hogan's Alley setup since it makes it near impossible to put crew in the flak gun position without changing the games natural resolution.
The other thing that turned me off to this mod was the fact that i spent 5 weeks zigzagging from 20-150 miles off the coast of Japan going from Tokyo Bay to the Luzon straight up and down the coast, and allthough i was attacked by planes hundreds of times, i never once in that patrol saw another naval or merchant ship. Not even a fishing boat or junk was to be found.
One would think that after being attacked 6-7 times by planes thru the course of the day at least an escort or two would come see what the planes were making all the fuss about since i was 10-15 miles from the harbor entrance.

This may be Historically accurate but plain sucks from a gaming point of view. Any (Navel) game i can log 30 hours of real game play in and never see another ship is not the (Naval) game i want to play so its the recycle bin for TMO and The Fall of the Rising Sun will be the next mod checked out....hope they got ships in that 1 lol.

That is why there are other mods out there, something for everyone.

Happy Hunting!

Press the period/delete key on the numbered keypad to drop the HUD, this gets the dials out of the way to place crew. Press the same button again to bring HUD and dials back up. If this easy, 1 second work around didn't exist, i wouldn't have added Hogan's Alley for the very reason cited.

If you were using TMO sans RSRD, then what was the year of the war? If early war its possible theres a bug in one of the campaign layers or spawn rate set too low, if its later war, then thats a different story.

Thanks for the tip that will make it easier.

Aircraft will be most frequent at the beginning of the war. Toward the end, much less frequent, bordering to rare on occasions.

I recicle-binned TMO aswell

Its unrealistic, too heavy and some times stupid, skins and HUD are complete rubbish aswell as all inerface and etc.

After trying alot i liked most RFB, but after some time got back to stock version with few minor mods like bearing tools, some minor fixes mods and etc.

Now its fantastic to play again!

Default Just My Opinion -

I've been playing various flavors of Trigger Maru or TMO for the past 2 years, always with the compatible version of RSRDC. As for finding ships; I find it hardest in the 1st 7 months of the war because you're reliant on visual spotting only. Once SJ radar comes on the scene, contacts are more frequent.
Interestingly enough, I'm playing RFB-1.52 with RSRDC/OM on the desktop now. Starting at the beginning of the war; I did two war patrols and found only 1 merchantman. After getting SJ radar in August, I never made it to the patrol area as I ran into and sank 4 merchants in the vicinity of Iwo Jima.
On the laptop, I'm playing TMO 1.9 with the compatible RSRDC. I've sank 2 or 3 merchants in the patrol area. I think its somewhere in mid to late '42 and I have SJ.
TMO is a fantastic mod, particularly when paired with Lurker's RSRDC. I spent the majority of my SH4 time playing the combo of those two mods.

Default my first patrol (10,000 th campaign)

TMO 1.9. finally started a new campaign. Inserted an agent (that sounds strange) per orders, and found a busy harbor with ships moored and their watches asleep. Sank four for 25K tons of steel on the bottom, but lots of duds. Attacked by many planes on the way to Pearl, but did not shoot any down. Playing at 90 percent realism, and 8,000 renown. I was awarded a purple heart, but no one got promotions. TMO sticks it (inserts an agent where the sun does not shine, in a manner of speaking) to me once again.

Certainly these two fine gents don't think anybody actually buys their little song and dance, do they?

In any time of the war, using TMO plus RSRD, which further restricts spawn rates, I have a hard time saving enough torpedoes to do anything with after I reach my assigned patrol area. I'm sure I'm far from unique.

My present cruise, December 1941, sugar-boat, I've used all but four torpedoes and just reached my patrol area.

Well what did you expect it is the pacific! Then again I remember having that issue with SH3 and (add mod here ________) This was early days where all i wanted to do was sink lots of ships all the time yet ships weren't everywhere to be found. Some one made the Spysat mod where once enabled it showed all convoys/taskforces on the map so all I had to do is head in that direction. This was good fun for a while till it became too boring as it became to easy that i ended up going back to (add mod here ______) and actually started to appreciate having to go look for them.

Dont know if there's a Spysat mod for SH4 but if so you could try that.

Some of us want to relive the history, others of us just want to play a game. Thank goodness for options.

One hates it because it's too realistic, another agrees he hates but because it's not realistic.

On which subject, it's fine to say it's unrealstic, but exactly why is it so? What specifically is "complete rubbish"? The interface, you say? How so? And how exactly is it "Stupid"? Random complaints aren't enough - we need specifics.

The following is commentary and may not reflect the opinion of management, or even myself!

Notice the difference between the reception such a negative post receives here, as opposed to a negative post about brand X in the SH3 forum. We're much wimpier, more toothless crowd of harmless little fuzzballs! Maybe we're just friendly, but that is doubtful.

Steve's hit it on the head. Everything you complain about can be changed. And your taste in the game may change after you've had your fill of shooting fish in a barrel (see the applicable Mythbusters). That's why it is such a great thing that the game can be changed from an arcade type massacre to the realistic or even hyper-realistic (that means unrealistic again...) difficulty. Without that I doubt I would continue to play the game regularly after two years.

Also my Slightly Subnuclear weapons are "fully compatible" (Lurker, you stay out of this!!!!) with just about any mod you wish to destroy with great prejudice. I assure you the destruction is great fun and even better, can be instantly removed with JSGME when you are ready for more frustration.

I do question the truth of your claims of no targets, though, as my experience with TMO/RSRD has been that using objectives given only, traveling directly between missions I have a hard time completing three missions without running out of ammunition of all types. Sometimes I have trouble completing just one mission because I use up so much ammunition on the direct path to my objective. I have had a scarcity of targets on occasion with RFB in early war, but the only targets then were military and the effect is realistic.
